The Joy of Mapping 1 is a communal mapping session which took place on July 23rd, 2016. The participants mapped under the strict guidance of James Paddock (Jimmy) and a few session tutors via Discord and Twitch and were talked through the basics of mapping, such as creating connected areas, interesting layouts, and using thing placement sensibly. The participants mapped in a variety of formats, mostly Boom and ZDoom (UDMF). The Joy of Mapping 1 was the first in a series of similar projects of increasingly large scope set up by Jimmy, receiving five sequels over the next three years.
