Cacowards

The Troopers' Playground is a single-player episode for Doom II. It was created by Matthias Worch and uploaded to the idgames archive on March 29, 1996. The Trooper's Playground contains nine regular levels in TTP.WAD, one bonus level in TTPBONUS.WAD, and two deathmatch-only maps in TTPDEATH.WAD. The episode features a custom status bar and new textures.

A modified version of MAP06 appeared as MAP09 of Requiem.

Monster

A DeHackEd patch is used to create a new enemy, the "Evil Trooper", which takes the place of the regular SS Nazi monster and has a powerful rapid-fire hitscan weapon. The Evil Trooper looks like a green Doom marine without the helmet.

Installation

The original version of The Troopers' Playground is bundled with copies of DeHackEd v2.3 and New WAD Tool, with a DOS batch file named TTP.BAT that the user must run to install it, and then a second time to uninstall it. While a modern source port can run the DeHackEd patch directly, it cannot load either TTP.WAD or TTPDEATH.WAD unless it implements support for New WAD Tool WADs, preventing the WAD from being played outside of a DOS environment.

On March 7, 2016, Eric Baker uploaded a "repackaged edition" to the idgames archive with permission from Matthias Worch. This version replaces New WAD Tool with DeuSF in the installation process and restructures the WAD files to be compatible with it, allowing modern ports to run them without special support.

Built-in demos

This WAD features three built-in demos. All require Doom II v1.9 to view them. The demo levels are:

Demo Level Skill Tics Length

DEMO2 MAP05: Underground Temple 4 4367 2:04.77
DEMO3 MAP02: Intrusion 4 1521 0:43.46
