- January 23 - Graf Zahl, creator of GZDoom, releases a source modification called ZDOOM-COD.EXE, derived from ZDoom 2.0.96 that would allow to play Caverns of Darkness (from 2002) on ZDoom.
- August 12 - An updated version of Void (designed for ZDoom 2.0.96) is released
- September 11 - Ni'mRoD - IXNAY on the HOMBRE is uploaded to the /idgames archive in an updated version that would allow the WAD to be played in GZDoom.
2006
- July 10 - Version 2.0 of the first take of The Zdoom Community Project is released.

- September 8 - GZDoom port of ZanZan, originally released around 2000 and requiring ZDoomGL (v1), is uploaded to the /idgames archive.

- February 28 - BioShock level designer Jean-Paul LeBreton publishes a noted design analysis on Doom and releases Arcadia Demade, a Doom II version of a BioShock level.[4]

- September 4 - The Brutal Doom gameplay mod is initially released.[5]
- October 8 - Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch is released to the public after a demo debut at the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention.

2012
- July 27 - For the 10th anniversary of 2002 A Doom Odyssey, the fourth version is released, adding another level (new E3M5) while also reshuffling the positions of some of the original ones.
2015
- February 14 - The first version of InstaDoom is released. It wins the Mockaward for 2015.
- June 13 - Sunlust is released and later wins a Cacoward.
- August 17 - Don't Be A Bitch Remastered is released and later wins a Cacoward.
2016
- January 15 - John Romero releases his first Doom PWAD in 21 years. Tech Gone Bad is a single level for limit-removing ports and is an alternate take on E1M8: Phobos Anomaly.[6]
- April 26 - John Romero releases a second Doom PWAD, Phobos Mission Control, as an alternate take on E1M4: Command Control.
2019
- May 22 - John Romero's SIGIL is released in the form of limited editions, which began to ship on this date. On May 31, the WAD was released as a free download.
- December 29 - Remastered version of Decade is released; compatible with GZDoom and containing an alternative mode called Clucking Hell.
2020
- May 26 - Russell Pearson releases a reimagined version of Doom Raider: Crypt of the Vile under the title Doom Raider 2020.
2022
- March 2 - John Romero releases his first Doom II PWAD in over 27 years.[7] One Humanity is a single level for limit-removing ports, sold for €5.00 with all proceeds going towards supporting the humanitarian relief efforts in the wake of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
- November 1 - Remastered version of Action Doom is released under the subtitle Rampage Edition.
