great stuff hidden away in user namespace[edit]

It would be great if this could be moved to the main namespace. at the moment it won't show up in default searches but it's very useful info. -- Shambler (talk) 05:54, 29 July 2016 (CDT)

At the time, there was an IRC discussion about the volatility of the IDs.  It was decided not to add great masses of them, e.g. here.  I don't know much about web programming, although would anyone be shocked if Steam rolled something out unannounced with no backward compatibility?  That said, if a Linux user has tested these and they work, no reason they couldn't be listed in Steam.    Ryan W (usually gone) 10:46, 29 July 2016 (CDT)
Just a reminder that this useful material is hidden away here, and User: is not searched by default either. The app IDs and depot IDs have not changed in the last 3 years, and neither has this technique. I've just downloaded *Master Levels" using this trick. -- Shambler (talk) 10:09, 18 March 2018 (CDT)
In fact whomever suggested they could change was mistaken. If Steam were to change those IDs, the ability to install and run games through the system would be destroyed. The internal configuration of apps and the API requests they make depend on such IDs to various extents. The only reason they can change is if the developer of the app itself changes them deliberately, in which case we'd probably need to update the articles anyways since something would have to be different about the game in question.
