Map images: how?Edit

Can you explain how did you make the maps-with-dots images? I remember reading somewhere that GIMP was used, but did you use a script to make these, and if not, can you describe the process? Also, is there any reason that dots on E1 maps are purple and on E2 maps are blue? I've managed to sort of replicate the effect, but I can't guess the font. Also I suspect that there's an easier method that that I came up with. PolicyNonsense 18:51, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

It is not a script; everything is aligned by hand.  I click once with the paintbrush tool to make a circle, then use the text tool to superimpose a layer with the letter on it.  The dashed lines for maze routes are done with the paths tool.  The font is "URW Gothic L Semi-Bold", which may or may not be commonly available (it is absent from the OS X build I have now).
There is no particular reason for purple and blue.  I thought that saturated primary colors with either white or black letters would stand out most.  (I think I planned to use dark green for E3, then orange with black letters for E4.)  I certainly don't have any magic method for choosing optimal marker positions.  Therefore, if you have a better procedure, feel free to download Fredrik's maps and use it.    Ryan W 23:47, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. My method was more complicated. Was there any particular reason that different colors were used? I don't think that orange is a good idea, as special lines are orange on the Fredrik's maps. I think I'll use dark green for E4. Oh and I don't have that font either. I'll use Sans Bold. PolicyNonsense 08:46, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
*shrug* I used different colors because they were different episodes.  But you're probably right — at one color per megawad, we would run out of colors.  I doubt that the change in font will bother anyone, unless they're a vampire.    Ryan W 14:03, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
