Do not fill this in! == Misc. things and player starts == Voodoo dolls could be counted -- they are merely the number of player 1 start points minus 1. If there are three player 1 starts, there are two voodoo dolls. Coop starts could be counted too, but here again the mechanics is a bit different. If there is one (or more, see voodoo dolls) P1 start, one P2 start, and one P3 start, that's three coop starts. See player start (ZDoom wiki link because we don't have such an article here yet) for a list of editor numbers. Finally, there are team game player starts, notably the CTF Standard defines red and blue team starts. --Gez (talk) 09:42, 17 October 2016 (CDT) : Players starts normally seem skippable to me as there is only one of each. Voodoo dolls are an interesting exception, but it's not entirely clear whether multiple player #2, #3, etc starts create dolls for those other players too. DW indicates that's the case but they're rare, the ZDoom page describes only #1. Could this theoretically result in up to 8 Voodoo doll rows in the Things table? That's a bit much, innit? How many maps that are likely to be described on DW do even have them? : And as mentioned long ago (in the context of combining Strife's acolytes and rebels and such), any aggregation or computation on the normal total number of a Thing would require special handling in the generic counting and/or table building code, which I really want to avoid. : Team starts present a different problem: after checking a few CTF maps that follow an older convention (red 9027, blue 9029) I found Rage CTF uses the new standard, but also uses Hexen's lump formats. In DMMPST the IWAD determines how thing and linedef lumps are loaded, and this PWAD's lumps aren't compatible with Doom II's. Being relatively new to these source port details, I don't know if that's always the case, or whether there are also CTF levels in Doom lump format. But all in all, this becomes a little awkward to code for as well. : Btw, the Standard editor numbers list doesn't mention those IDs. Lastly, got a class header preference? --Xymph (talk) 08:54, 18 October 2016 (CDT) ::I wasn't talking about listing separately each coop player start type, but about telling how many types were present. If there are player starts for player 1, 2, and 3, then it's three players coop. If there are starts for player 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, then it's six players coop. I do think that'd be useful to know. ::Given how the multiplayer scene is largely focused on ZDaemon and Zandronum-née-Skulltag, you're going to find a lot of DM/CTF levels using the "Doom-in-Hexen" format. Also most ZDoom singleplayer maps, as well, such as the Zort series for example. There are CTF levels in Doom format, though, look for odactf1 for example. ::As for class header, either "Miscellaneous" or "Hazards & Misc.", I have no strong feelings about this either way though. --Gez (talk) 06:30, 20 October 2016 (CDT) ::: Hazards had just a category link anyway, not an informational page, so no reason to let that stand out over all the other misc. things. "Miscellaneous" it is. ::: Thoughts on how to count voodoo dolls? ::: In which table should the Team starts be included? Only Boom/Hexen Deathmatch, or Coop too, or even classic MP? --Xymph (talk) 03:02, 22 October 2016 (CDT) ::::Voodoo dolls: I'd say only one count is needed. Team starts: Deathmatch if available, Multiplayer otherwise. I don't think any multiplayer-centric port out there lacks Boom support, though, so you're probably fine with just Deathmatch. --Gez (talk) 05:03, 24 October 2016 (CDT) Summary: All contributions to DoomWiki.org are considered to be released under the CC BY-SA 4.0 International (see Doom Wiki:Copyrights for details).
