Re: bah-boom[edit]

Hi Xymph,

Not sure whether you're seeking detailed feedback yet, but I'll emphasize that this is extremely interesting.  :D  I suppose I should follow those forum threads in case DSDA staff offer more information.

"Please let me know if you spot any mismatches"   — Superficially it looks fine, but (due to the size and heterogeneity of the databases) there are many possible points of failure between the original upload and our published link.  My best idea is to read (some!) LMP text files and verify that each "signature" matches the article title.  Would that actually help you at this stage?  If so, I'll try it.

Thank you for making time for this!  Ryan W (living fossil) 06:25, 3 June 2020 (CDT)

If I find a batch method, then I'll do it.  I (and hopefully others) will have more to say about the link tables when you reach that step, because AFAICT no single filter is endorsed by all demo-fans — records can now have forks, like software.  HTH, Ryan W (living fossil) 16:40, 3 June 2020 (CDT)

And of course, as soon as I save...  :>  Arnaud Florian (Oxyde) is listed twice in the first column.  Ryan W (living fossil) 06:37, 3 June 2020 (CDT)

Yes, because as far as I've been able to determine (both coop-ed with JCD), he's listed with two different aliases on Compet-n and DSDA, and thus ends up with two sets of links. My guess is that the demo sites weren't aware of the aliases belonging to the same person -- or that I am entirely mistaken. --Xymph (talk) 14:17, 3 June 2020 (CDT)

It wouldn't need to be a table, or posted on-wiki at all, or even formatted, just whatever default layout your library produced.

I ask this because:

  • To search the front end, I must navigate to the LMP history for each combination of WAD, map slot, and style.  (If I don't specify both level and style, I see only current records.)
  • Even when comments are found, a bug often prevents them from rendering. [1] (working link)
  • Vanilla competition has been a walled garden for years.  If there exist insights from expert players published nowhere else, I'd like to see them in case they can be incorporated into our map articles.

Hello!  It's definitely not urgent and I know you have larger development projects to address.  FWIW I think it's a great feature since the forum threads tend to be diffuse and off-topic even after a major release; I wish more players used it.  Thanks for any time you can spend on this, in any year.  Ryan W (living fossil) 07:33, 8 June 2020 (CDT)

Well, using the .tsv file I have dispersed the substantive content to the relevant TODOs.  (The micron-thin silver lining of low traffic, in this case, is that I immediately guessed the missing filenames based on date stamp and identifying the runner from their comment text.)  Thanks again!  Ryan W (living fossil) 04:28, 16 June 2020 (CDT)
