A wiki is a website that allows the creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages using a simplified markup language. Wikis are typically powered by purpose-built software, and are often used and maintained collaboratively by a group of users. Examples include community websites, corporate intranets, knowledge management systems, and notetaking services.

The first known wiki was WikiWikiWeb, named after the Wiki Wiki Shuttle at Honolulu International Airport. "Wiki" is Hawaiian for "fast", i.e. if the reader wants to make a change, they can do it immediately.
