30nm4949

From DoomWiki.org

30nm4949 is the first ever non-cheated speedrun through all of Doom II on Nightmare! difficulty. It was recorded by Thomas Pilger (Panter) on October 15, 1998, and published on Compet-n five days later.

Panter began practising in late 1997. At this time a full Doom II Nightmare! run, 30nm6520, had already been submitted to Compet-n a year and a half earlier, but its authenticity was questioned and by late 1996 it was discredited as a cheated demo.[1]

At the time of its release, Panter's demo gained wide publicity. Compet-n site maintainer Adam Hegyi emailed John Romero about the run, prompting this response: "Thanks for the info. I grabbed the demos and I'll run them as soon as I have a little spare time - I can't wait to see a nightmare run through DOOM2, it's just gotta be impossible!"
