32in24-5 is the fifth edition of the 32in24 series of PWADs. It was the first 32in24 for FFA deathmatch since the very first edition. As with previous sessions, the project was hosted by Shaikoten, with the session taking place on 16 September, 2007.
As Shaikoten felt 32in24 could produce better looking work, but did not like detailing maps himself, this WAD featured a change in rules from previous sessions. Instead of 32 maps being completely made within the 24 hours, the new rules specified that a mapper must create their entire layout within 24 hours, and then it would be passed on to secondary mappers to do detailing over the next couple of days, using a texture WAD compiled by Sarah Mancuso (esselfortium). This way of organising the project evolved over future sessions, and ultimately the original method of doing everything in a single day has not been used since 32in24-10.
35 maps were submitted to the project, with the three weakest submissions being cut to bring the total down to 32. The WAD was compiled by Mancuso and DD_133, and was uploaded to the /idgames archive on 4 October, 2007. The new approach of polishing the maps after the session paid off, as not only did 32in24-5 receive positive reviews consistent with most of its predecessors, but it also won the Best Multiplayer WAD award at the 14th Annual Cacowards, beating the other four editions, amongst others.
