50 Monsters is a 34-level vanilla compatible megawad for Doom II, created by Brayden Hart (AD_79). Excluding lost souls, every map in the WAD contains fifty or fewer monsters, with the exception of MAP32 and MAP35, which contain around a hundred each.
The maps are designed with the intent of creating a normal difficulty curve whilst staying under the tight restrictions. To aid with this, some custom monsters are included: the Afrit from Scythe 2 is present, as is the Cybruiser - a combination of the cyberdemon and baron of Hell. A final boss known as the Overlord is also included, taken from Realm 667 and converted to DeHackEd by Obsidian. Chaingunners do not drop the chaingun upon death, instead dropping a clip, identical to their behaviour in Valiant, a major influence on the WAD and Hart's style in general.
The project started in 2014 and features some of Hart's earliest mapping efforts. It also includes guest mapping from Paul DeBruyne (skillsaw) and Justin Kelly (Breezeep) amongst others. The first episode of the WAD was released on 31 January, 2015, containing ten maps. The full megawad saw its beta release on 15 October, 2015, but a final release was long delayed, with an eventual upload to the /idgames archive on 2 January, 2017.
