A Hunter attacks the Slayer.

The Agaddon hunter is an enemy in Doom: The Dark Ages. It is a bipedal demon with large horns and a mechanical right arm, wearing a fur cape, and armed with a shield and a double-ended sword.

Appearance[edit]

The Agaddon hunters are large humanoid creatures. Their heads have three horns, one on the forehead and two large ones on the sides. Unlike their counterparts from the distant future, they do not have a metallic eyepiece; instead, they have two yellow eyes, and wears red mask, which also covers the central horn. Their body has dark-bluish gray skin. On some parts of their body, parts of their bones are visible, and their shoulders have two boney spikes. The right side of their chest has some kind of device attached to it. The left arm has been replaced with a red cybernetic prosthetic which is connected to the shoulder by tubes, and holds a double-ended sword.

The other arm, which is smaller and not replaced with a prosthetic, has one large, long spike, and holds a shield with a skull embedded in it. The legs have metal spikes on their knees. The left foot has been replaced with a prosthetic with four metal claws like the left foot, which is untouched and wrapped in bandages. They also have clothing elements such as a thigh bandage, with decorative elements such as skulls and bones, and wear a cape akin to the Doom Slayer's, but with fur only on the top half.

Champion variant[edit]

Compared to the komodo and vagary champion variants, its skin color is bright grey, but its mechanical parts, mask and also thigh bandage with shield are gold.

Tactical analysis[edit]

Hugo Martin described the Agaddon as "the new marauder" and stated that it would use combo attacks that need to be blocked or parried with the shield saw.[1] Like marauders, Agaddon hunters demand that players maintain mid-to-close range distance with them to properly counter their assault. Keeping distance from an Agaddon will cause it to raise an impenetrable shield, tapping it to release three huge projectiles in a spread. The center projectile is a wide projection of their shield, while the two side projectiles are homing skulls. Once within range, the Agaddon can close the distance with a parryable shield charge, or swing its massive blade at the Slayer. The overhead slash attack has a slight delay before it swings down, so players must mind their timing when attempting to parry it.

Lore[edit]

Like the Slayer himself, the Agaddon hunters are described as "outlanders", having been torn away from distant worlds to be enslaved and corrupted in service to Hell. Once noble hunters, their twisted bodies and minds now serve only Prince Ahzrak and his horde. The dark priests specially choose and mark their quarry. Their enhancements are meant to rival even the Slayer's power.

The remains of Agaddon hunters that were found on Earth are later turned into the Doom hunters by the Hell priest Deag Ranak during the course of Doom Eternal.

Pre-release[edit]

  • A post made by Bethesda on April 29, 2025, referred to the monster as an "Aggadon hunter" rather than the usual spelling of "Agaddon".[2] In a later post on May 1, 2025, Bethesda clarified the misspelling, stating that the monster’s name is spelled as “Agaddon hunter”.[3]
