Altars of Madness is a 12-level PWAD for Doom II using Boom-compatible source ports, plus a short outro map. It was first released by Alex Decker (myolden) in June 2022 and subsequently uploaded to the idgames archive on July 9, 2022. All maps are relatively small in size and can be finished in under 10 minutes, with a medium to hard difficulty level, focusing on short, compact combat puzzles. A death exit is placed at the end of each map, forcing pistol starts. The WAD comes with a custom soundtrack that comprises MIDI renditions of tunes from various video games, plus a few songs from the Doom community, featuring no bespoke tracks. All maps in the WAD are named after metal songs.
It was selected as one of the runners-up at the Cacowards 2022.
