Castle of Evil is a single-level PWAD for Doom that was released on October 27, 1994. It was designed by Stanley Stasiak (lordwlfie) and is set in a huge, largely non-linear castle, making it one of the largest Doom maps created up to that point.

Other points of interest[edit]

Secrets[edit]

  1. Go to the shotgun at the start and open the wall to the north to get a box of ammo and a green armor. (sector 65)
  2. Shoot the north wall in Secret #1 to get shotgun shells and a medikit. (sector 682)
  3. Head east from the hub room with the large platform to see an arrow pointing north. Open the wall there to get a light amplification visor and a path going east. (sector 92)
  4. Take the path from Secret #3 until you see a red button. Press it to get a box of ammo. (sector 213)
  5. Go all the way through the passage past Secret #3 until the end and open the wall at the end. This counts as a secret sector, but you cannot register this secret due to the step in the way. (sector 13)
  6. Open the wall directly across from Secret #5 to get a rocket and either another rocket or shotgun shells depending on your skill level. (sector 14)
  7. Go back to the hub with the large platform and ride it up. As it does, jump southwest into a room and open the south wall to get two health bonuses, plus a berserk pack on Ultra-Violence or higher. (sector 548)
  8. Stepping on the arrow mentioned in Secret #3 will open a wall in the hub southeast of the platform. Ride the platform and jump southeast to this opening to access a teleporter. (sector 59)
  9. Take the teleporter and head south on the ledge, then east into a corridor. Head south and open the southeast wall to get a radiation suit. (sector 1039)
  10. Drop into the nukage west of Secret #9, then use the monitor to the east. Return to where Secret #9 is and get the soul sphere here. (sector 1012)
  11. Flip the switch in Secret #10 to go up. Attempt to head southwest slightly and the floor goes up further. Stay on it as it goes up and head north to get an energy cell pack. (sector 1053)
  12. Head south through the nukage on the east end and head west. You will see a plain brown wall to the south that you can lower. Take it up to get a box of rockets, a rocket, a green armor, and a medikit (not on Hurt Me Plenty). (sector 900)
  13. Take the teleporter in Secret #12 to get on this secret ledge. (sector 709)
  14. Drop off from Secret #13 and open the door to the east. Open a wall to the north to get a backpack, a box of shotgun shells, and a medikit. (sector 532)
  15. Head back and then north in the Command Control room. When the lift lowers, enter the passage to the northeast to find a teleporter leading to a blur artifact. (sector 974)
  16. In the room with crates at the northeast end, exit to the east and flip the switch immediately to the north of the door. Head north on the ledge and it will lower; as this happens go north through an open door and climb the steps. Open the door to get a rocket launcher, a box of rockets, a stimpack, and a megaarmor. (sector 993)
  17. Head back to the entrance of Secret #12 and go further west. When you head down, go to the northeast wall and open it to get a box of ammo or a chaingun depending on your skill level. (sector 601)
  18. At the east side in the nukage, take a lift up, then go over the north side of the lift and quickly run southwest, then west to another lowered lift. You should be able to get both an energy cell pack and a megaarmor (if you are not able to get the energy cell pack, you need to go into the nukage and north of the lift, as if you were going towards the monitor mentioned in Secret #10). (sector 606)
  19. See Secret #18. (sector 555)
  20. In the Command Control room, head southwest, then west. In this open area, open a wall to the northeast to get this secret. (sector 603)
  21. Lower the lift at Secret #20 and hug the north wall as it rises to get armor bonuses, a medikit, and a rocket, energy cell or a box of ammo depending on your skill level. (sector 1006)
  22. West of Secret #20, open the wall and jump to the box of rockets. From here, you can jump to a blur artifact. (sector 565)
  23. Take the lift south of the chaingun room and flip the switch next to the lift. Head back and enter the room to the southwest. Open the wall south of the energy cells to get a rocket (not on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower), armor bonuses, shotgun shells (not on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower), and a green armor. (sector 663)
  24. Open the wall at the end of Secret #23 to get a stimpack. (sector 654)
  25. Flip the switch inside Secret #24 to open a bigger room with two boxes of ammo (one on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower), an energy cell (Ultra-Violence or higher), a box of shotgun shells, and a medikit. (sector 194)
  26. Open a wall at the west side of Secret #25 and enter the small room with shotgun shells and a stimpack. Wait for the wall to close and press the east button to open the west wall. Jump across and open the wall there to find a secret passage. (sector 179)
  27. Press the switch after Secret #26, then head south and open the west wall. Head south to a room with a hub teleporter (this teleporter in the middle takes you back and forth from the teleporter hub, which would have four other teleporters open) and head east to a wall with two flanking pillars. Use the wall to lower a soul sphere to the south. Before leaving this secret, ride up and press the skull switch to permanently lower the sector. If you leave or do not get the soul sphere on time, you will not be able to use the wall to lower the secret again and will also miss out on Secret #31. (sector 524)
  28. Go back to the hub with the large platform, ride it up, then jump southwest to the higher walkway. Head west and open the grey wall along the way to find shotgun shells, an energy cell, a box of ammo, and either a green armor or megaarmor depending on your skill level. Further south, press the skull switch for later. (sector 277)
  29. In the large marble room at the west side, climb the southeast steps up and enter a teleporter. Immediately turn around and open the wall to find a medikit (not on Ultra-Violence or higher) and a lift to an invulnerability. (sector 678)
  30. South of the large marble room is a platform on a red pedestal that you can ride up. Do so, then jump west and open the wall there for a secret passage. (sector 383)
  31. In the room with the large star and blue torches, take the southwest passage going west to a door. Open it and get on the ledge to the north, then to a hall to the east. Head south to two switches. Press both of them. Return to Secret #27 and, assuming you also used the skull switch in Secret #28, you can head south to a teleporter to a plasma gun and energy cells (the energy cells are not there on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower). Before using the teleporter though, press use on the step to get a secret later. (sector 551)
  32. Open the north wall to leave. Note that this sector is a teleporter that cannot be registered. (sector 237)
  33. Climb the steps to the northwest tower of the castle. Before the top, head east to the wooden area and open the east wall. Take the teleporter, then you can jump east to the blur artifact as well as west to a soul sphere. (sector 774)
  34. Go all the way to the northwesternmost wall and lower it to get two boxes of rockets (one on Ultra-Violence or higher). (sector 922)
  35. Get the berserk pack at the northernmost end of the map, then backtrack and head east, then north to a teleporter. When you teleport, open the southwest wall for a switch to lower the backpack, as well as a switch to lower a megaarmor in the hall to the west. (sector 153)
  36. In the west field, go to the northwest side and then east and south. Open the large wall there to find a stimpack. If you head west, you will raise the northwest tower of the castle. (sector 486)
  37. Open the east wall at Secret #36 to find a chainsaw and two medikits (one on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower). (sector 488)
  38. Head back to Secret #30 and head south in the corridor. Open a misaligned wall to the east and drop down to a stimpack. (sector 386)
  39. Open the wall east of Secret #38. If you pressed the step mentioned in Secret #31, enter the teleporter to get either an energy cell or an energy cell pack depending on your skill level. (sector 358)
  40. In the J-shaped hall near the south end, enter the west room and lower the south wall with a box of ammo (not on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower). Ride up to get another box of ammo and a stimpack (only on Ultra-Violence or higher). (sector 1015)
  41. Head east from the J-shaped hall and open the north wall to find a medikit. (sector 1017)
  42. Head south in the same hall and open the wall there to drop to a medikit, an energy cell (not on Hey, Not Too Rough or lower), and a teleporter to a megaarmor. You can re-enter the teleporter, turn around, and flip the switch to open the north wall in the megaarmor if it is not open already, which allows you to teleport to the north. (sector 924)
  43. In the J-shaped hall, go to the northwest side and open the southwest corner wall to get this secret. (sector 568)
  44. At the blue key, drop out of either window to the north to get a box of ammo. (sector 822)
  45. In the blood at the south end, go to the blue switch and press it. Proceed east and press another switch, then backtrack and take a lift near the blue switch up. Hop south and go to the south wall with two faces. Use the southeast one to open the southwest wall. You will find a backpack, a medikit, and a box of ammo. (sector 810)
  46. Head through the north wall in Secret #45 to get a BFG9000. (sector 817)
  47. After you get the blue key, return to the hub with the large platform and go west. Open the southwest wall with the blue key. You can lower the medikit to the south, and if you progress further, more alcoves to behind you will lower revealing radiation suits, a box of shotgun shells, and a box of rockets. (sector 26)
