Chord NG

Chord NG is a single-level PWAD created by Malcolm Sailor for Doom II. This is the third entry in the Chord series. It was chosen as one of the entries for 1997 in the Top 100 WADs of All Time.

This is a map known for its low number of enemies but high difficulty. The challenge mainly lies in the location of the enemies and the high use of chaingunners, so it is recommended that you do not approach this map with an all-guns-blazing philosophy or you will end up dying quickly. The map starts immediately in action, at a crossroads. On each side you have a Hell knight, and each corner is a movable platform that when lowered will reveal a bunch of chaingunners. Kill a Hell knight and look for cover along the way. It is best to create a choke point and cause the chaingunners to attack the rest of the Hell knights.

Take the southeast platform and go up. You will reach a small entrance where several chaingunners and revenants will be waiting for you. Don't jump directly into the area, as you will be surrounded by chaingunners, so kill them with patience. Once you clear the area, take the right side from where you came up and you will pass through a small path, at the bottom there is a switch that lowers an elevator just to your right side. Go up, the elevator will take you to a path that, immediately you cross it, will teleport you to the other end, at the position of the blue key. Just at that moment, a group of barons of Hell will teleport around you. Try to kill them with circle strafing, because if you try to run away, you will cross the path and revenants will teleport. Once you clear the area, you can go back through the path and the same platform you entered from. Press it to open the passage and go straight on. You will see a blue switch in sight by the window where the chaingunnners and revenants were.

The switch will open a door behind you where the arch-vile is, and it will also teleport several chaingunnners to the other side of the window, so be careful. Inside the arch-vile room is the yellow key. Pick it up and return to the beginning of the map.

Now, go to the northeast platform. Now you can enter thanks to the yellow key. In front of you will be a large room, with the red key at the bottom. As soon as you enter, several revenants will attack you. You might be tempted to go for the red key, but it is preferable to kill the revenants first. Once you take the red key, a small door will open to reveal a megasphere (at the same time, several revenants will teleport on the platforms at the beginning of the map) and you will teleport back. Several revenants will attack you so be careful.

Once you clear the area of enemies, take the platform in the northwest and go up, you will find ammo and health. As soon as you enter the room, it will start to descend and a group of barons of Hell will teleport in; at the same time, as you descend, they will open small windows where chaingunners will attack you. Concentrate on the chaingunners, as they are the biggest danger.

At the end of the descent, you will see a red switch. When you press it, an arch-vile will be revealed in front of you. The platform will most likely be rising back up by this time, so be quick to eliminate it or it will resurrect the barons of Hell.

The switch opens the final door, which will take you to the exit area. Go through and you will open the final map.
