Console backward compatibility
From DoomWiki.org
Backward compatibility is a common feature of many game consoles which allows newer versions or generations of a console to run some or all of the software available for the predecessor systems of their own brand or, in some cases, of other brands. This ability has brought various Doom titles forward onto systems for which they were otherwise not specifically released, or in forms that are not otherwise available on the target system.
This article lists instances of official backward compatibility support for Doom-series titles on commercial consoles and handheld video game systems. Unofficial support through firmware hacking is available in some cases but is not documented here.
