Counterattack is a seven-level PWAD for Boom-compatible source ports, released by Brett Harrell (Mechadon) in 2017. It was one of the winners of the 2017 Cacowards. The WAD contains five large, highly-detailed levels, plus two bonus maps (MAP31 and MAP32) that cannot be accessed through normal play: To play them, the player must use either the -warp command line parameter, the idclev cheat code or a console command if available.

Custom monsters[edit]

Skull Turret

Skull Turrets appear on MAP05 and MAP32. They have the appearance of a spawn cube mounted on a small metal support. They attack with the same plasma projectiles as the arachnotron with a slightly increased firing rate. They have 400 health and internally replace Commander Keen.

Gate Master

Gate Masters are huge, tentacled, flying spider mastermind brains and appear on MAP05, serving as the final boss, where the player must kill two of them in order to access the exit. They internally replace Romero's head and use the sprites of the Aracnorb Queen. They have 8000 health each and attack by launching three pairs of mancubus fireballs in quick succession, followed by a pair of revenant missiles.

Bubble Ship

The Bubble Ship appears on MAP32 and replaces the Wolfenstein SS. It is a large flying saucer with 14000 health, and attacks by launching a massive flurry containing the projectiles of every projectile-based enemy in Doom, including cyberdemon rockets and revenant missiles. It will only stop firing if the player moves out of its line of sight.
