Cyberdemon (Doom: The Dark Ages)

From DoomWiki.org

The cyberdemon.
This article is about the monster in Doom: The Dark Ages. For other games, see:

The cyberdemon returns in Doom: The Dark Ages as a tall, cybernetics-enhanced demon, this time with a pair of wings. As with almost all cyberdemon-class monsters, its right leg and left arm are entirely synthetic, with the left arm being replaced by an arm cannon. The right side of its face and left side of its chest are additionally augmented, with the chest plate appearing to contain a large, orange eye. It has substantial black horns with small orange lights embedded into them, as well as lights appearing through the skin on its abdomen, which is atypically intact. It wears a belt with a metallic loin guard.

Tactical analysis[edit]

The cyberdemon is dangerous from a distance. Once it is alerted to your presence, it will attack by summoning sharp stone spikes from the ground at your position even when you are out of its line of sight, therefore it is important to stay on the move around one. Approach a cyberdemon with your shield ready, as his left arm will shoot either a powerful homing skull or a disruptive barrage of hitscan bullets akin to an arachnotron. Once you are within range, the cyberdemon will resort to a two-hit melee to force you away. The first is a huge swipe from its right arm blade, and afterwards is a powerful stomp that will produce a field of damaging energy spikes similar to a Hell knight. Parry both to force a falter state and get free hits, and repeat until the cyberdemon falls. It is also possible to perform a glory strike on the cyberdemon, which will damage its cannon and reduce the power of its ranged attacks.

Lore[edit]

The cyberdemons are highly ranked horde elders and are considered to be ancient and mythical. They command lesser demons in accord with the orders and vision of Prince Ahzrak. The lineage of cyberdemons is said to be primordial, extending all the way back to the initial fall of Jekkad. Prince Ahzrak feared the cyberdemons would rebel, despite their fierce instinctive loyalty, so he had their wing tendons severed, removing their ability to fly.

Apparence statistics[edit]

The cyberdemon is first encountered in the Holy City of Aratum, and then appears in later levels as a regular enemy, an enforcer and a demonic leader.

Trivia[edit]

  • In the game files the cyberdemon is called "Tyrant".
  • The mechanic of damaging the cyberdemon's machine gun is a reused idea from Doom Eternal's tyrant. Damaging the tyrant's arm cannon would have disabled its lock-on beam and rocket rain attacks.[2]
