DBK01: Dungeon Synths is an episode for Doom II designed for ZDoom-compatible source ports. Created by veteran members of the Doomer Boards Projects led by Big Ol' Billy, it is the first installment in the DBK series. Released on July 11, 2021, the mapset is themed around a combination of medieval design with cyberpunk, synth-inspired visuals. It includes new sounds, Ogg music and textures.

The episode received an honorable mention at the 2021 Cacowards.

The cultist replaces the Wolfenstein SS.

In addition to the custom monsters defined above, the zombieman, shotgun guy and heavy weapon dude all received new sprites that are quite different from the stock Doom II sprites and several other monsters received more minor sprite edits. However, the statistics and names for these monsters were not changed, barring the lost soul which has its health reduced to 50 hit points.

  • Dungeon synth is a subgenre of electronic music that merges black metal with ambient music. It employs ambient sounds inspired by medieval settings, tabletop role-playing games and fantasy videogames and literature.
