10 Day Vacation is a 10-level episode WAD for Doom II designed for limit removing source ports, created by various members of the Doomer Boards community led by Ilya Lazarev (joe-ilya). It is the 27th entry in the ongoing Doomer Boards Projects. Work on the project was carried out during August 2020. The first version was released on September 1, 2020.[1] After some bugfixing the final version was released on September 30, 2020,[2] and uploaded to the /idgames archive on October 8 of the same year. The maps are themed around the summer vacation.

Content[edit]

The mod uses a DeHackEd patch to create custom monsters, weapons, items and decorations. Some of the monsters and weapons and most of the items and decorations had their sprites changed to fit the theme of the mod. A lot of inspiration, as well as some sprites and sounds, came from the Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach expansion pack for Duke Nukem 3D.

Custom monsters[edit]

Baron of Hell
Heavy weapon dude was replaced by a new version of baron of Hell which drops red skull key upon death.
Chainspider
Original baron of Hell was replaced by a chainspider, which looks and acts similar to the arachnotron, but has a chaingun hitscan attack, hence the name. This custom monster was introduced in the DBP10. It uses sounds of arachnoid enemy from Serious Sam: The First Encounter.
Flying imp
Pain elemental was replaced by a flying imp. This custom monster was introduced in the DBP10.
Chaingunner
Wolfenstein SS was replaced by a new version of the heavy weapon dude, who now drops a clip upon death instead of a chaingun.
Turret
Commander Keen was replaced by a turret, which uses sprites of the same enemy from Duke Nukem 3D. This custom monster was introduced in the DBP10.
Seagull
A medikit was replaced by a seagull. It acts similar to a lost soul, but spawns at the ceiling, does not block the player and has only 20 hit points.
Health babe
Replaces Romero's head. Technically not a monster but much like a decoration. When you come close to her, she will spawn a beer bottle nearby (see custom items section).

Custom items[edit]

New health items:

  • water drop - grants 1 hit point (HP) like the health bonus;
  • beer can - grants 10 HP like the stimpack;
  • beer bottle - grants 25 HP like the medikit;
  • water barrel - grants 100 HP like the supercharge.

New armor items:

Other powerups:

  • full breakfast - grants 200 HP and AP like the megasphere;
  • hot sauce - replaces the berserk powerup;
  • invulnerability - now looks like a girl which you can rescue (pick up).

Built-in demos[edit]

This WAD features three built-in demos. All require Doom II v1.9 to view them. The demo levels are:
