Zeppelin Armada is an eighteen-level steampunk-themed megawad for Doom II designed for limit removing source ports and was created by various members of the Doomer Boards community, led by Jon Vail (40oz). The first version was released on the Doomer Boards forums on July 3, 2023,[1] and on the Doomworld forums on July 4,[2] and is the 59th entry in the ongoing Doomer Boards Projects. The project was released in two forms - a "full" version containing steampunk weapon and sound replacements, and a "clean" version using the default Doom weaponry. Both versions also include a custom status bar and status bar face. As with the previous DBP, it had a two month development cycle as opposed to the usual one month time period. Version 1.1 was released on July 27.[3] It was compiled by BiZ and contains various bugfixes.

One of the highlights of the mod is that it implements NPCs that the player can interact with in order to have dialogue or take/turn in a quest.

Story[edit]

The time travel experiments of you, Dexter Hornbuckle, have brought forth doom and allowed demons to invade this reality. You must defeat the demons and repair the rift in time.

Content[edit]

The mod uses an internal DEHACKED lump to create a custom monster and several ambient sound things. Custom PLAYPAL, COLORMAP, and UMAPINFO lumps as well as a custom status bar are also included.

There are two variants of the release - clean and full. The latter additionally contains replacement sprites and sounds for the following weapons: pistol, shotgun, chaingun, and rocket launcher.

Custom monster[edit]

Banger
Replaces Wolfenstein SS and is identical to zombieman.

Trivia[edit]

  • There was a minor controversy at the DBP59 launch: characters from The Excavation of Hob's Barrow were used as the basis for NPC sprites without permission or credit. 40oz did this unknowingly because he thought that these characters were from some unknown old game. After the discovery, he contacted the developers and even bought a copy of the game to apologize. Although the developers happily agreed to keep their characters in DBP59, 40oz created new replacement sprites that were introduced in the mod's v1.1 update.
