Dark Universe, part 1 is a 6-level partial conversion for Doom II requiring GZDoom. It was released by Paul Dechene (Payload4367) in 2018 and won one of the 25th Annual Cacowards. Maps are small- to medium-sized, with HMP and UV difficulty settings available.
Dark Universe uses modern storytelling and aesthetics to expand on Doom's cursory plot. A space marine, stranded on a UAC spaceship in the midst of a demonic invasion, must fight through atmospheric 3D maps, activating switches, scrounging supplies and equipment, avoiding deadly hazards, and ultimately surviving the forces of evil. Secrets, scripted events, and stunning views reward in-depth exploration.
