Dean of Doom is an ongoing series of WAD review videos, created by MtPain27 and hosted on YouTube. The very first video of the series was released on September 4, 2020.
Each level in every WAD reviewed receives two grades: one for quality and one for difficulty. There are five quality grades: A (highest), B, C, D, F (lowest). To receive an A grade, the level must be: fun, memorable, visually distinctive, creative, and a fair challenge. There are six difficulty grades: X (extreme), A, B, C, D, E (easy). Examples: X - MAP30: Fire and Ice from Scythe, E - E1M1: Hangar from Doom.
The author has set for himself the following rules for playing levels in the reviewed WADs:
- The Ultra-Violence skill level is used
- All levels are played from the pistol start
- Every level is played twice
- Saves are allowed
- 100% kills are a mandatory goal unless it is impossible or does not make sense
Usually at the end of the video the WAD itself also receives two grades - for quality and difficulty. After this, some levels receive additional rankings as part of the so-called "Dean's List":
Sometimes additional levels are chosen to form the "Honor roll".
