Doom-tech (IRC channel)
#doom-tech is a Doom community technical discussion channel, not officially related to any particular project, although frequented by members of the Chocolate Doom, Doom Builder, Doom64 EX, Doomsday Engine, Doomsday Engine: Next Generation, Eternity Engine, Freedoom, Odamex, PrBoom, ReMooD and Simple Doom Editor projects.
In June 2006, jarlath posted a message to the prboom-devel mailing list, asking whether he should register an IRC channel for PrBoom. Jon Dowland suggested registering a channel for technical discussion which would not be specific to a particular project. Simon Howard then registered #doom-tech on the Open and Free Technology Community network.
The name "doom-tech" was originally thought up by Russell Rice.
Members from various projects including Chocolate Doom, Doom Builder, Doom64 EX, Doomsday Engine, Doomsday Engine: Next Generation, Eternity Engine, Freedoom, Odamex, PrBoom, ReMooD and Simple Doom Editor frequent the channel. The channel is also the official home of the Simple Doom Editor and Freedoom projects.
Anyone running a doom-related project is encouraged to use the channel for discussions -- it is hoped that cross-project discourse will be beneficial to all.
A CIA.vc bot formerly announced Subversion commits made by these projects, the bot was owned by GhostlyDeath but control was transferred over to Fraggle. The bot went offline along with its parent website and has not been fully replaced. A more primitive IRC bot currently announces changes only for Odamex and the Eternity Engine.
