Games are fought over best-of-three rounds. Victory is not about the killing the opponent, but by inflicting the most damage. Future game modes are planned to accommodate three and four players.

Pre-release content[edit]
Atlan fight mode[edit]
Atlan Fight is an alternative game mode that changes the standard game structure of DOOM: The Dark Ages | Arena Board Game while still using the core rules of the base game, including action-based turns, Demonic Activation Tokens, Blood generation, and Tempo Abilities. However, all units in this mode have increased Health and Damage values and use high-caliber Combat Dice.
The Slayer controls the Atlan as a single unit with two actions per turn and variant-specific abilities. The Atlan also gains access to a unique Dodge action, allowing it to move one hex after an attack is declared. If the Dodge causes the attack to fail, the targeted Demon unit becomes more vulnerable during the Doom Slayer’s next turn.
The demonic hordes player controls titans, which are designed to deal high damage and apply sustained pressure. The titan player can use the overwhelm weapon rule which increases damage based on the number of Demon units adjacent to the Atlan, encouraging coordinated positioning.
Atlan Fight arenas also introduce breakable hexes, which are destroyed when moved through and cause additional damage when a unit is forcefully moved into them.
Prince Ahzrak[edit]
Prince Ahzrak is designed as a unique boss encounter that alters the standard game structure. Normally played over three rounds, the players can vote to transition into a special "Boss Round" once all three keycards have been collected. During this phase, the Slayer faces off against Ahzrak and the supporting demon units.
Ahzrak is added to the Demonic Hordes during the upgrade step and uses his own dedicated Arena Board and unique rules. His gameplay emphasizes close-range combat, sustained pressure, and coordination with other demon units.
Ahzrak has a large health pool and several special abilities. One such ability "Blood Priests" creates tokens that automatically move toward the Slayer and explode on contact, dealing damage.
Unreleased goal[edit]
Only one stretch goal was never met; the Old One himself at 280,000£. What his abilities are or would have been are unknown. However, he would have been used as a demonic horde enemy in "Atlan Fight mode".
