Doom: The Way We Remember It is a community project in which mappers were tasked with recreating the levels from Ultimate Doom entirely from memory. The project was led by Engired. It started on May 3, 2021,[1] and the first version was released on July 16, 2021.[2] The WAD hasn't yet been uploaded to the idgames archive because Engired considers it to be "technically unfinished."[3] On April 16, 2023, Engired commented that after the release of Plutonia: The Way We Remember It, work on this project will resume not only with bug fixes, but also with recreation of music, as in all other installments of the series.[4]

A sequel, Doom 2: The Way We Remember It, was released in 2022.
