Doomguy's Warzone

From DoomWiki.org

Doomguy's Warzone is a randomizer wad made by Doomguy 2000. It serves as the first iteration of the Doomguy's Warzone series of wads. It was released November 29th, 2010 and like later editions of the wad, it was poorly received by the Doom community. The first version relied heavily on Realm667 resources with a small amount of monsters created by the author himself. The wad was built upon the author's first wad released earlier that year in February. It features 7 player classes and replaces all of the difficulties except for nightmare and adds three more making the total 8.

Difficulties[edit]

Hell For Beginners
The easier version of Hellish according to the author. This difficulty was recommended beginners and people who haven't played the game in years.
Marine Assault
It replaces all monsters with marines. The Cyberdemon and Spidermastermind are both replaced with different versions of the Tourette's guy.
Icon Of Eternity
This difficulty replace most of the monsters with either a boss eye or a boss target. The weapons replaced are randomized with powerful weapons that are supposed to be helpful and the small portions of ammo are replaced with ammo kits.
Hellish
Replaces Ultra-Violence like it did when initially released back in February. It is called the flagship difficulty where it has been improved according to the author where you go up against random monsters that are from Realm667. The base Doom ammo is replaced different currencies with the weapons also being replaced with random spawners.
1337hard
Harder version of Hellish where you go up against the hardest monsters.
Doomguy's Celebrity Nightmare !
This is where you go up against all of Doomguy's creations with a few monsters replaced with a random spawner. Most of these monsters except for a small number continue to show up in future installments of Doomguy's Warzone.
Everything Random !!!
Depending on what spawns in front of you this difficulty can be very easy to very hard. It replaces everything with specific spawners for monsters, weapons, ammo, items, and decorations. Decorations would continue to be randomized in Gold Edition with them it was changed to no longer randomize decorations.

All of these difficulties would return in Gold Edition and become retired except for Doomguy's Celebrity Nightmare ! and Everything Random!!!. Doomguy's Celebrity Nightmare would be the base Doom difficulties in the reboot while being renamed to Classic Warzone in Doomguy's Warzone Platinum Edition. Marine Assault is planned to comeback in the final edition of Doomguy's Warzone according to a post be the author on his YouTube channel.

Player classes[edit]

Marine
The base marine class in the normal Doom games.
Demolition Man
An explosives player class that starts off with some explosion weapons. Starts off with 20 rockets, 40 mini rockets, and 10 landmines on top of the 50 bullets.
Strategist
A marine that uses unique weapons like the stunner rifle from Stronghold and the sniper rifle. Starts off with 150 cells, 10 landmines, 20 sniperbullets on top of the 50 bullets. Also equipped with a few different items that are UAC based.
Fatman
A slightly slower class that starts off with 200% health but can reach a maximum of 300%. Has a rifle, chainsaw, and super shotgun with 20 shells and 100 bullets.
Sorcerer
Comes equipped with a scepter of souls, Skull staff, and Gauntlets. This class also comes with 5 unique custom inventory items and 175 Darkmana along with the 50 bullets.
Classic Power
Starts off with all of the classic Doom weapons that includes 100 Bullets, 20 Shells, 20 Rockets, and 150 cells.
New Age Power
The last class has the lowest health at 50%. The author claims that the low health is the price for choosing a class with very good power. The startup includes powerful weapons that take up one slot with two for slot 6, and full currencies for shells, rockets, cells, magnum bullets, nails, and gas.

All of these classes would return in Gold Edition with all of them being retired since the reboot. The marine class in the reboot had a improved setup that came equipped with a rifle, shotgun, chainsaw, and improved mega armor. This particular class would be renamed to Warmaster in Platinum Edition. Demolition Man, Classic Power, and New Age Power are planned to be returned in the final edition of Doomguy's Warzone.

Criticism[edit]

The wad was poorly received with the complaints being centered around the difficulties and most of the replacements being overpowered. The notable monster complaints are the Tourette's Guy, Weightlifter12, Cyberdemon Head, and Street Thug. The Playboy magazine was also a notable complaint because of the nudity. It was also mentioned in the Cacowards 2010 in the worst wad category alongside Æons of Death. The Zdoom thread was shortly locked after Doomguy announced a sequel to the original wad, Doomguy's Warzone Gold Edition. The sequel would cement the author's place as a controversial figure in the Doom community with some naming Gold Edition as one of the worst wads ever made.
