Doomworld Mega Project
From DoomWiki.org
The Doomworld Mega Project (or DMP) is a continuous annual mapping project previously held at Doomworld forums. This is a community project where everyone can submit a level by following the established rules (except for DMP2019). Rules change from year to year, though these changes became more drastic from DMP2020 onwards. The project was created by TimeOfDeath, who also led most of its iterations. Following DMP2022, the series ended its affiliation with the Doomworld forums and relocated to Doomer Boards. As an all-purpose community project for the Doomworld forums, it has since been superseded by the Doomworld Maximum Project series.

Concept[edit]
TimeOfDeath got the inspiration for the Doomworld Mega Project when he was chronologically playing through thousands of WADs from the /idgames archive. He especially liked playing single-level WADs because they allowed him to enjoy the unique style of different mappers. And that is what ultimately became the DMP - a compilation of levels created by different mappers, where everyone can express themselves. TimeOfDeath also points out that DMP was never meant to be a project for beginner mappers, since almost no feedback is provided.[1]

Projects[edit]
DMP2012[edit]
TimeOfDeath started the thread for very first Doomworld Mega Project on March 13, 2012.[2] The idea was that each member of the Doomworld forums would contribute a map. The following rules had to be observed: one level per person, Doom II IWAD, any map format, no custom content (no new textures, monsters, etc) except new music, the quality or seriousness of the level did not matter (joke and troll maps were allowed). The project lasted a whole year, and the first version was released on December 16, 2012.[3] After that a few more maps were submitted, and after some bugfixing the final version was uploaded to the idgames archive on March 1, 2013. Overall 40 maps were submitted: 12 vanilla or limit-removing maps, 19 Boom-compatible maps and nine ZDoom maps.
DMP2013[edit]
The second installment in the series, led by TimeOfDeath. Overall 54 maps were submitted: 21 vanilla or limit-removing maps, 13 Boom-compatible maps and 20 ZDoom maps.
DMP2014[edit]
The third installment in the series, led by TimeOfDeath. Overall 35 maps were submitted: 16 vanilla or limit-removing maps, 11 Boom-compatible maps and eight ZDoom maps.
DMP2015[edit]
The fourth installment in the series, led by scifista42. Overall 53 maps were submitted: 24 vanilla or limit-removing maps, 18 Boom-compatible maps, eight ZDoom maps and three GZDoom maps.
DMP2016[edit]
The fifth installment in the series, led by TimeOfDeath. Overall 49 maps were submitted: 22 vanilla or limit-removing maps, 15 Boom-compatible maps, 11 ZDoom maps and one GZDoom map.
DMP2017[edit]
The sixth installment in the series, led by StormCatcher.77. Overall 51 maps were submitted: seven vanilla maps, eight limit-removing maps, 21 Boom-compatible maps and 15 ZDoom/GZDoom maps.
DMP2018[edit]
The seventh installment in the series, led by TimeOfDeath. Overall 32 maps were submitted: 18 limit-removing maps and 14 Boom-compatible maps.
DMP2019[edit]
The eighth installment in the series. Only one map was submitted by TimeOfDeath himself.
DMP2020[edit]
The ninth installment in the series, led by TimeOfDeath. Overall five ZDoom maps were submitted.
DMP2021[edit]
The tenth installment in the series, led by TimeOfDeath. Overall 18 maps were submitted: 14 Doom II maps, one Heretic map, one Strife map, one Chex Quest map and one Wolfenstein 3D map.
DMP2022[edit]
The eleventh installment in the series, led by TimeOfDeath.
DMP2023[edit]
The twelfth installment in the series and the first to be hosted on the Doomer Boards instead of Doomworld forums. It was once again led by TimeOfDeath. A special restriction this time was the prohibition of playtesting. Overall eight Boom-compatible maps were submitted.
DMP2024[edit]
The thirteenth installment in the series, led by TimeOfDeath and hosted on the Doomer Boards. This time the rules required each participant to create a megawad. A total of five mapsets were submitted (41 maps overall), of which only one is a megawad.
