Doot Eternal

From DoomWiki.org

Doomworld's Doot Eternal is a feature published in 2023 as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the original release of Doom. It was bundled with the 2023 Cacowards and was written by Stephen Browning (Scuba Steve), Carlos Sanchez (Cardboard Marty), Not Jabba, rd, Bank, Maribo, Dynamo, Mikolah, James Paddock (Jimmy), Sarah Mancuso (esselfortium), MtPain27, Stuart Rynn (stewboy), and Shannon O'Neill (Major Arlene). Doot Eternal was created to celebrate various custom soundtracks created for Doom mods throughout its history, and specifically from before the introduction of the regular Dootaward in the 2020 Cacowards. While initially proposed for the 25 Years of Doom review special, the idea was picked back up again in 2023 and led by Scuba Steve, who assembled a team of Cacoward writers and external contributors to compile a list of music pieces. Although 30 works were shortlisted, the team did not try to choose one per year. Most of the picks were previously either featured on the Cacowards or in Doomworld's Top 100 WADs of All Time, but some had not been previously featured in either.

The feature takes its name from the Skull Trumpet meme, also known as Doot Doot (an onomatopoeia of the trumpet's sound in the original source video).[1] A version of the meme featuring the revenant from Doom (2016) became highly popular,[2] causing many to associate the meme with the Doom series.
