E1M2: Cinema is the second map of Chex Quest 2. It was designed by Digital Café and uses the music track "Cinema" by Andrew Benon.

Walkthrough

Map of Cinema

Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials

Open the door in front of you, go across the street and into the vent opening to the right of the cinema entrance, go to the far end of the ventilation, turn right and flip the switch. Backtrack to the street and head into the cinema, turn left or right, go behind the counter and get down the lift, turn right in a diagonal line and flip the switch. Backtrack to the cinema entrance and go inside the now open cashier room and take the blue key. Go back to the room with the counter, but this time head upstairs, open the first or second blue door and take the red key on the far end of the room behind the blue door. Backtrack to the entrance of the cinema and turn right into the tight alleyway, go across it and take the yellow key in the center of the next room. Backtrack to the counter in the cinema and open the yellow door there, advance outdoors behind the yellow door, turn right twice to enter the exit room, flip the lever there.

Secrets

Official

• Go into the vents in the main street, but instead of heading to the far end of the ventilation, turn right to get into a room with a large zorcher pack and a flemoidus bipedicus. (sector 16)

Bugs

• A flemoid larva is stuck in one of the vents of the cinema.
• There are no red key doors, so the red key is useless.

• Several movie parody posters can be found in the cinema's lobby. These include:
  • Shark, a reference to the 1975 thriller Jaws.
  • Chex Andyman, a reference to the 1994 crime comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
  • Minnesota Joe, a reference to the Indiana Jones series of films.
• The movies playing inside the cinema also parody other films:
  • The movie in Cinema 1 recreates a scene from the 1925 epic Battleship Potemkin showing a baby carriage rolling down the Primorsky Stairs.
  • The movie in Cinema 2 uses the "rubberhose" style of animation popularized by companies like Walt Disney Productions and Fleischer Studios.
  • The movie in Cinema 3 recreates a scene from the 1925 comedy The Gold Rush where the Lone Prospector (played by Charlie Chaplin) sticks bread rolls at the end of two forks and makes them "dance".
