E1M5: Urban Sprawl is the fifth map of Shotgun Symphony. It was designed by Steve Duff.

Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.


Other points of interest[edit]


  1. In the central area, head west to the yellow door. Open the tan wall at the south end and follow the hall to a green armor. (sector 1214)
  2. In the large outdoor area with nukage, head south and take the steps up. In the hall leading east, use the terminal to the north to open the one to the south. Inside are imps, a stimpack, a box of rockets, and shotgun shells. (sector 1215)
  3. In the east section with nukage, take the lift at the north end up and head east. At the end of the hall, go southwest to lower the column behind you with a rocket launcher. (sector 287)
  4. Open the red door and go southeast to a lift. Take it down, then flip the switch at southwest end to lower the corners. Head to the northwest corner and open the wall to find a medikit and boxes of rockets. (sector 340)
  5. Flip the switch that reveals the blue key, then head back to the room that led to Secret #4. There is a corridor to the south now. Go there, flip the switch, then enter the nukage to find a soul sphere. (sector 171)
  6. Flip the switch behind the one that reveals the blue key, then head back to the nukage room that has Secret #3. Enter the nukage and head east to the steps, then west across more nukage. At the end of the next hallway, flip the switch to lower a pillar with a megaarmor. (sector 158)
  7. Getting Secret #6 opens a teleporter to the northeast. Take it and when you teleport, lower the window to the east, then head up the steps to get rockets and an energy cell pack. (sector 128)
  8. From where you teleport to get to Secret #7, follow the path to the next lift. When you get to the outdoor area, flip the switch at the northeast area to lower the pillar in the middle with a BFG9000. (sector 433)
  9. In the yellow key area, head to the east end with a pool of blood. Open the east wall, then head east into another room. Head southwest and west through the nukage and hit the switch. Backtrack and take another path south, taking a lift up. Use the switch here to lower the pillar to the east with a plasma gun. (sector 108)
  10. In the long hall at the west end of the map, head to the south end and flip the west switch. Head to the west side and flip that switch to open the door to the west. Go through, but backtrack and the platforms on the west wall will lower. Head to the northernmost of these platforms and flip the switch there. Open the door to the north and the bars here have lowered. You can get medikits, stimpacks, and a soul sphere. (sector 850) In case you failed to backtrack and are trapped in the courtyard, press the switches until you open the southern bars. If you go towards the southern wall of this alcove, new rooms open to your left and right. Enter the western room and lower the western wall to find a teleporter leading back to the hall.
