E1M6: Island Hopping is the sixth map of episode The Shattered City in Strange Aeons. It was designed by Mike MacDee (Impie) and uses the music track "Mission 5 theme" from Chasm: The Rift. The par time defined in MAPINFO is 3:00.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

The teleport to your left leads to the slipgate, but it is blocked. Jump into the other teleport and orient yourself quickly: you are dropped on top of "Sitting Duck Isle" with monsters attacking from all directions. The exit slipgate is in view, but out of reach. There are teleporters on either side of your island, though, within easy reach. You can also see a tall green switch tower in the distance.

The north teleport takes you to a crooked island with a guard tower and a large arrangement of floating rocks nearby. When you move or make a sound, flayworms teleport onto the island and try to mob you—kill them fast, and watch your back for sneaky grells. Shoot the skull switch on the underside of the floating rocks to open the teleport that leads to the exit (and also triggers a large demon wizard ambush in the exit arena). However, the slipgate is on a platform that cannot be reached without raising some stairs.

Return to Sitting Duck Isle and go through the south teleport. This one takes you to the tall green tower you saw earlier: take the lift to the top and throw the switch to activate the slipgate stairs. Backtrack and take the slipgate out of the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

If you go to the slipgate first, there is a rage sphere behind it that will help with the demon wizard ambush.

Secrets[edit]

  1. Check the floating rock to the right of your spawn point for a skull switch. Shoot it to access the goodies in the fenced off area. (sector 3)
  2. Directly behind your spawn point is a tiny outcropping just out of view: drop down there for a rocket launcher and some rockets. (sector 23)
  3. Next to the slipgate is a floating hunk of rock in the sky with a teleporter in the underside. If you run and "jump" underneath it, you will be teleported to the nearby cliffs. (sector 79) Jump across the rock spires (sector 91) to reach the soul sphere, then immediately jump into the ether before the ceiling collapses on you.
  4. See secret #3.
  5. Drop off the left side of the switch tower and move around to the front for a blue armor. (sector 124)
