E1M6: Stomping Grounds is the sixth map of The Wayfarer. It was designed by Not Jabba and uses the music track "Unsanctified Grounds" by Varis Alpha.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

As soon as the level starts, turn right then right again to enter a blue teleporter, which will send you to the center of the map between the four square buildings - do not stand still as you are surrounded by undead warriors, nitrogolems and lesser chaos serpents. Head south past an ethereal crossbow until you reach some Gauntlets of the Necromancer, which will release a maulotaur from a compartment ahead, then head south-east to a building covered in vines - weredragons, sabreclaws and nitrogolems (plus one or two iron liches on bringest them oneth (BTO) skill level or higher) will teleport in behind you, so go inside the building and head straight forward to find a phoenix rod and the green key. Taking the key will close the entrances and allow ophidians, disciples of D'Sparil and nitrogolem ghosts to teleport in - to escape, head up the stairs in the north-east corner to the top then run west until you reach a hole in the wall that you can climb through to get back outside.

Head across to the west side of the map, to a green key door in a stone tower, then climb up the stairs inside the tower to reach the yellow key. Take the key then drop down to the floor below, then head north-west and north into a seemingly empty hall; there is a button in the middle of the hall opposite a Sigil of Power, but a large number of undead warriors will teleport in when you go near it. Press the button to open a set of bars to the east, then go that way and head through a small doorway (flanked by yellow gizmos) to see a Tome of Power on your left in front of a teleporter. Prepare yourself before entering the teleporter as it will send you to a tower containing the blue key, which is guarded by Rocastus and some lesser serpents (plus a greater chaos serpent on BTO or higher). Killing Rocastus will lower a small teleporter at the south end of the room that leads back outside.

After using the teleporter, go straight forwards to a Sigil of Power and a button, which will open the large gate ahead - if you have not approached this button already, then various monsters (including a maulotaur on BTO or higher) will teleport behind you. Go through the gate then turn right and right again to see an undead warrior ghost guarding another button, which will open some large metal bars to the north; step through these bars to end the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

After getting the green key, you can enter the church in the south-west corner of the map. A hellstaff and a Sigil of Power are placed at the entrance, and when you go inside you will find ammo, another Sigil and a Lightbringer. Taking the Lightbringer will cause serpent keepers, ophidians and disciples to teleport in.

Secrets[edit]

  1. At the west side of the south-west central block, use the rock that has a metal ridge to find a quartz flask, sun runes and a nova rune. (sector 5744)
  2. Head back to the rock that leads to secret #1, then ride it up this time. Go clockwise around the south-west central block, until you are south of the center. Use the north-west part of the wall with grooves to reveal a hidden switch. Head back to the north side of the block and cross over to the north-west block, then head east and north until you can enter the water area. You can get sun runes here, but the secret you need is the Ring of Invincibility at the top of the steps. (sector 4990)
  3. Go north of the central blocks and when you see the next building to the east, head south of it. Find a rock with a metal ridge and use it to lower it. Use the switch there, then head back to the building to find Time Bombs of the Ancients, a Bag of Holding, lesser runes, inferno orbs and quartz flasks. (sector 722)
  4. Head to the northern-most end, then head to the west wall of the big building. Lower a wall on the east side and take the teleporter. This area has sun runes, a quartz flask and a map scroll. (sector 4907)
  5. Head to the rocks just east of the northern-most area (north-east of some quartz flasks, ethereal arrows, a quiver of ethereal arrows, and a silver shield) and use one that has a ridge on it. Ride it up and head north to the water pool to teleport. This area has a quartz flask, a Bag of Holding and lesser runes. (sector 4236)
  6. Head south of the rock that leads to secret #5. Enter the building and use the east wall where the Morph Ovum is to lower the south wall, containing sun runes, a quartz flask and lesser runes. (sector 1601)
  7. In the south-east section, go to the south-east and pick up one of the Morph Ovums. Use it on a monster on ground floor, then lure the chicken to the teleporter at the west side (underneath the wall you cannot enter). The chicken will teleport. Go towards the west wall and it will try to follow you. When you hear it teleport, the two pillars at the south end will lower, where you can now get a mystic urn and an enchanted shield.   8. Take the steps north of the green key, then out the window. Follow the rocks on the east wall all the way to the north, taking the teleporter to a shadowsphere. (sector 3960)
  9. Inside the chapel at the south-west end, you need to use two altars on the sides. Use the second one from the bottom on the right side (which has an inkwell) as well as the third one from the top on the left side (which has a brown cup). Using both altars opens the south walls where the Lightbringer is. Go behind these walls to find sun runes and a Tome of Power. (sector 5004)
  10. At the north-west end, there is a shrine with a teleporter at the south-east end. You need to use two hidden switch and shoot another one to lower this teleporter. Head north-east of the shrine, then find one switch on the west wall. Head south from the shrine and into the next hall, then look for a hidden switch below the window second from the left on the west wall. The last switch is in the area east of the shrine, above the bookshelf, which is the switch you need to shoot. After you use the switches, take the teleporter to find an enchanted shield.
