Essentials[edit]

Walk forward to enter a large cave with a river running through it, then cross the bridge at the west end of the river and fight through to the gray steps on the north side of the cave. Open the door at the top of the steps to confront a spectre and one or more imps, then continue north through another door and go down some steps to face a baron of Hell along with demons, imps and shotgun guys who are guarding a hub. The building in the center of the hub contains the level exit, while the doors on the west and east sides lead to the blue and red skull keys respectively.

Blue key[edit]

Cross the bridge south-west of the exit building to a set of stairs and kill any imps waiting at the top, then activate the metal lift here and ride it up to a gray pathway. Follow the pathway south down some steps to a satyr switch and press it, then go back to the north end of the walkway and press a lion switch that has been revealed to activate a steam jet inside the nearby glass tube. Take the lift back down to the hub and press the gargoyle switch that has appeared in front of the west door to open it, kill any imps waiting behind it then go through the door to reach another gray path. Follow the path south past more monsters until you reach a junction, then take the east fork and go round a corner to find a door (protected by a cacodemon on Hurt Me Plenty skill level or higher).

Go through the door, along with a second door behind it to enter a hall with some large gears, then go across a bridge to the south side of the room and head down some steps to reach the lower level. Press the lion switch on the north side of the gears to flood the trench and reveal a second lion switch to the south, then press this switch as well to activate the gears and allow a baron to teleport to the room entrance. Go back to the junction on the gray path and take the south fork this time, following the steps down to a bridge that leads to a teleporter. Use the teleporter to enter a brick temple, kill the imps ahead then press the satyr switch on the east side of the temple to lower some bars on the west side. Go through these bars to get the blue skull key, which will change the surrounding water to blood and cause some imps and cacodemons to teleport in.

Red key[edit]

Use the teleporter on the north side of the temple to return to the gray path, then go back to the hub and enter the exit building; there are two pedestals at the south end of the room, and you can use the blue key on the west pedestal to open a blue skull bar outside. Leave the building and cross the bridge south-east of the exit building, then climb the steps to another metal lift and activate it to reach another gray bridge; like the first bridge you must head south to some metal stairs that lead to a satyr switch, but the stairs are broken so you will have to make a running jump. After pressing the switch, drop to the ground then head back to the top of the bridge to press a lion switch that has been revealed, which will blow a hole in the east wall. Kill any cacodemons and lost souls waiting behind the hole then carefully drop through it to land on a brown ledge, then run off the north edge to land on a broken platform below with a plasma gun.

Jump south and east down two more platforms to reach a brick bridge, but move slowly as parts of the bridge will fall into the lava below. Cross the bridge to a teleporter, which you will need later to return to the hub, then use the lift to the east to go up to an octagonal room with a lava pool. Continue east to another lift and press the gargoyle switch next to it to lower it, take a megaarmor waiting at the bottom then proceed north along another bridge until you reach a brick castle. Open the door and kill the imps and cacodemon ahead, as well as shotgun guys to the east and west, then step through either doorway at the north end of the room to find one to three barons protecting a partial invisibility and a satyr switch. Press the switch then go back inside the castle and press a lion switch that has appeared in the center of the room - this will drop the red skull key from a pipe at the north end of the room.

Exit[edit]

Head back along the bridge to the lift and ride it up to the octagonal area, where a cyberdemon has appeared in the lava, then press the gargoyle switch on the west side of the pool to activate the lift leading down to the teleporter. The teleporter will return you to the brown ledge that you dropped down to earlier. Run north to jump to the top of the broken staircase, where the door leading back to the hub has opened, then fight off a waiting baron before going back inside the exit building and placing the red key on the second pedestal. This will raise a satyr switch just behind you, which you can press to activate another steam jet and eventually lower the pentagram wall at the north end of the room. Once the wall drops, open the door behind it then go straight forward to a supercharge guarded by a lost soul. Taking the supercharge will lower the floor beneath you and end the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

Secrets[edit]

  1. When you enter the main complex of the map through the first door, you may notice an arrow of health bonuses pointing towards the lava. Go into the lava in this direction, and you should be under it and looking at a gargoyle switch. Press it and surface back into the room. Then, go to the other lava stream and press the gargoyle switch here as well. After doing so, return to the large river outside and go underneath the bridge. There would be a barricade here, but after hitting both gargoyle switches, this underwater barricade is now removed. Follow the underwater passage all the way around to the other side, where you can claim the supercharge. (sector 670)
  2. Once you have the blue key, return to the room at the northern part of the map, the same room with two pedestals to put the red and blue keys on. Place the blue key on the pedestal to open the bar to the south-east of the room. Take this path and the lift up. Drop off to your left at the top of the lift, and look toward the vine-covered wall at the north side. Press on the wall with the satyr face to open the way to the BFG9000. (sector 964)
  3. When you reveal the lion switch above secret #2, press it and the column to your right will blow up, along with a hole in the east wall. Run through this hole, and carefully into the lava just below the white teleporter here. There is an opening here (slightly south-east of the previously mentioned teleporter). Go up two ladders at this opening to reach another supercharge. (sector 1014)

Bugs[edit]

In the room south-east of the hub, you must press a lion switch to blow a hole in the east wall. If you fall down the gap between the hole and the metal platform next to it, you will be unable to escape.
