E2M5: The Temple is the fifth map in the second episode of Doom: Damnation. It was designed by Ofisil and uses the music track "Hidden". The par time defined in the DEHACKED lump is 2:00.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Go through the door in front of you then walk round the corner to find a shotgun in front of a white teleporter, then step into it to reach a chamber with a star-shaped nukage pool and three more teleporters - these lead to the three keys and can be used in any order.

Kill the imps and baron of Hell in the star chamber (plus some lost souls on Hurt Me Plenty skill level or higher) then enter the west teleporter. You will find yourself on an island surrounded by lava; there are many lost souls guarding the yellow skull key ahead and one to three cacodemons behind you, though they are all facing away from you. Take the invulnerability in the north-west corner and use it to help you defeat the monsters then collect the yellow key - a platform will rise in the south-west corner of the room allowing you to reach a supercharge and a teleporter back to the starting room.

Use the north teleporter from the star chamber to reach a room with gray columns that have zombiemen and imps behind them. Press the switch on the east wall to open it then step through to a blue passage which has two paths going north and south; take the south path and follow it west past some cacodemons, collecting a plasma gun on the way, until you reach the blue skull key. After taking the key, head west through the wall that opens then follow the path back to the starting room, collecting a chainsaw on the way.

Use the east teleporter from the star chamber and you will arrive in an enclosed trench with health bonuses, which lead to a skull switch. Press the switch then head back the way you came, going through a now-open wall to a square flesh arena with a cacodemon and seven demons. Take the red skull key from the blood pool in the middle of the arena then look north to see a teleporter behind a partial invisibility, which leads back to the starting room.

With all three keys, go back to the starting room and open the west door as well as flipping the switches either side of it - this will reveal a chamber with a rocket launcher and fourteen rockets, and beyond it is a hall filled with monsters including a cyberdemon and eight barons. Get the monsters to infight with each other until most of them are destroyed, then finish off the survivors and head towards the west end of the hall to finish the level and move on to E2M6: Volcano.

Other points of interest[edit]

Open the south door in the starting room to find a chamber with four backpacks and 18 boxes of bullets. Approaching the backpacks will reveal a berserk pack guarded by a baron, which will teleport to the starting room.

After entering the blue passage in the eastern area, follow the north path until you reach the blue key chamber (the entrance is blocked with vines), then turn right to find shotgun guys guarding three backpacks.

Secrets[edit]

  1. When you teleport to the room at the east side with the gray columns, lower the north-west column for an armor. (sector 46)
  2. Leave the room with the gray columns, then go south a bit and use the vent on the east wall. This lowers a lift to the east. Take it for a teleporter which functions as a shortcut to the blue skull key. (sector 116)
  3. Lowering the column at secret #1 unlocks a passageway north from the normal exit hall. Take this passage until you get to a barricade. Simply use the barricade to lower it, get past the baron, use the next barricade you come to, and you are at the secret exit. (sector 170)
