Essentials[edit]

Take the rocket launcher in front of you then leave the room to enter a cave with three supercharges - you must collect all three pickups to reveal the three skull keys. The south pickup will lower a platform in the south wall holding many imps guarding the red key, the middle pickup will open a lava pit in the west wall containing cacodemons and the yellow key, while the north pickup will lower the skin columns next to it revealing demons guarding the blue key. Search the brightly-lit areas of the cave to find a chainsaw, shotgun, chaingun, plasma gun, armor and ammo. If monsters walk on any of the candles in the cave, they will be teleported to a neighboring chamber.

After collecting all three keys, leave the cave using the north-east passage (any monsters that teleported out of the cave will be waiting in a chamber to the south containing a BFG9000) then continue east to a white ledge over a deep lava pit - the invulnerability pickup ahead of you should be saved until you need it. Head east and north to find an armor and a backpack next to a blue key door, then open the door to confront two or three barons of Hell. Follow the tunnel east until you come out on a brown platform on the east side of the lava pit with some imps; as you follow the ledge south a cyberdemon will teleport to the white ledge you crossed earlier, so stay on the move. Enter the next cavern and follow the trail of candles until you drop into a chamber with two or three cacodemons, then continue west to a second brown ledge on the south side of the lava pit.

Follow the ledge west into a third passage and go round the corner to a red key door, which has one to three spectres waiting behind it. Continue following the passage until you reach another brown ledge on the south-west side of the lava pit then head west into another passage that ends at a yellow key door. Open the door to find a narrow bridge over a lava pit and step carefully across it to a skull switch, watching out for the lost souls below. Pressing the switch will raise another bridge leading to the teleporter in the east wall - step into it to return to the chamber on the north side of the level, then retrace your steps to the white ledge and dispose of the cyberdemon. A bridge has risen behind the cyberdemon leading to a white teleporter - step into it to finish the level.
