E2 styled

From DoomWiki.org

E2 styled, an abbreviation of Episode 2 styled, is a common expression used to describe the game play or visuals of a map relatable to the designs and principles employed in episode The Shores of Hell of Doom. It is a specific sub-trope of the techbase map style.

E2-styled game play[edit]

E2-styled game play follows the same general principles as E1-styled gameplay while adding cacodemons and lost souls to the mix, and barons of Hell now appear as regular enemies. The berserk pack and plasma rifle join the player's arsenal. Teleporters are used frequently.

E2-styled visuals[edit]

The defining characteristic of E2-styled maps is the "corrupted techbase" aesthetic. The maps themselves generally follow semi-realistic layouts for military or scientific facilities, but the reality-warping influence of Hell resulted in material changes: while metal, concrete, and cement remain, they are now mixed in with wood, marble, vines, and hellgrowth. Bold colors, such as bright red metal or FIREBLU, can also be found. Generally the techbase areas feel older and less well maintained than E1 techbases thanks to the introduction of the dirty CEMENT and ICKWALL textures.
