E3M6: Dark Altar is the sixth map of The Evil Unleashed. It was designed by Thomas Möller, then known as Grindcrusher.

This level contains a secret exit to E3M9: Savage Area.

To reach the secret exit, first get the yellow key. Afterwards, drop down into the lava tunnel where you came from and there should be a passage to the west. Take this passage all the way down until you reach a fork. Turn left here and blow up the barrels, as well as getting rid of the demons. Press the satyr switch then return to the fork, going west onto the rectangular walkway (this is the same walkway overlooking the starting rooms). At the northeast corner of this walkway there should be an opening where you will find a gargoyle switch. This switch lowers a window at the south end of the rectangular walkway, so head there after pressing it and you will find a windy path leading to a teleporter, which leads to the secret exit switch.

Other points of interest[edit]


  1. In the outdoor area with the yellow key, there is a misaligned vine wall to the north. Press it to lower it and claim a berserk pack down the steps, as well as a megaarmor after another outdoor area with former humans. (sector 141)
