E4M1: E2M1 - They That Dwell Within is the first map in the fourth episode of Switcheroom. It was designed by Brendt Pantley (Megalyth) and is based on the layout of E2M1: Deimos Anomaly.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Head north and east past a teleporter to a nukage pit, kill any waiting shotgun guys then continue east and south to a staircase that goes up to the blue skull key. Go back to the teleporter near the starting point and use it to go to the north-east corner of the map, then head south through some fences to a lava pool containing a chaingun. Continue west to a set of white steps and run up them to jump over the lava pit, then kill the imps and zombiemen/demons that emerge from the teleporter ahead as well as behind you. Once the ambush is cleared, enter the teleporter that the monsters came from to go to the southern area.

Go straight forward into a blood pool, then go to the two gargoyle switches at the south end and press the right-hand switch to lower a wall behind you, revealing multiple demons. Fight through the demons and follow the path south past an imp/cacodemon to a blue door, open it and kill a waiting demon then enter the teleporter to go to the south-west area. Go to the south-west corner of the room and press the gargoyle switch here to raise a staircase nearby, then climb it and kill a cacodemon at the top before pressing the skull switch it was guarding. Go back to the south-west corner to press a second gargoyle switch that has been revealed, dispose of the imps that are released then go to the north end of the room and enter a second teleporter that has opened to go to the exit room. Approach the health bonus in front of you to lower the floor and reveal (depending on skill level) two imps, a cacodemon or a baron of Hell, then open the exit door to find one more monster guarding the white exit teleporter.

Other points of interest[edit]

After jumping over the lava pit, press the gargoyle switch in the east wall to reveal two more switches nearby. The left switch is used to open secret #2, while the right switch opens a compartment with a berserk pack, a box of shotgun shells and the red skull key. This key opens a door in the south area which holds imps and a megaarmor; taking the megaarmor triggers an ambush by two imps and/or barons.

Secrets[edit]

  1. Go east of the start to the area with nukage. Drop in and use a lift to the west. Head through and use the south wall to find an armor and stimpacks. (sector 163)
  2. In the area past the lava gap, press the switch to the right to reveal two switches to the north. Press the left switch, then return to the starting point. Head east to the area with nukage, then east and south from there to find a teleporter where the blue key was. Take it to find a secret area with a rocket launcher, armor bonuses, a box of rockets, a stimpack and shotgun shells. (sector 100)
