Walkthrough[edit]

Map of Sepulcher
Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials[edit]

You begin in the courtyard at the south end of the map. Approach the bars in front of you to open them and go through to the entrance hall, which contains golems and undead warriors as well as Gauntlets of the Necromancer, then go through the west door to enter a room with a circular platform. Go to the eagle insignia on the west side of the platform to lower it then step on the platform to open the central column, revealing a switch. Press the switch then go back to the entrance hall to see that the doors around the exit teleporter have opened, along with four closets containing golem ghosts.

Go through the east door in the entrance hall to face some gargoyles then step on the gray platform at the top of the steps to go down to the sepulcher. Collect the ethereal crossbow from the coffin at the south end of the sepulcher to open two chambers on either side containing nitrogolems, go into either chamber to lower the exit teleporter in the entrance hall, then go back to the north end of the room where a switch has opened. Press the switch along with three more switches that open next to it to release some disciples of D'Sparil and open a path back to the entrance hall, then go back there and enter the teleporter in the middle to go to E4M5: Great Stair.

Secret exit[edit]

Refer to secrets #2 to #6 below for information on reaching the secret exit to E4M9: Mausoleum.

Other points of interest[edit]

The northern area past secret #4 holds various items including a hellstaff, a Morph Ovum, a Tome of Power, and two firemaces. If you go to the three columns at the north end, you can find a switch hidden behind the northernmost column, which will raise stairs leading up to the phoenix rod on the middle platform.

Secrets[edit]

  1. After pressing the fourth switch in the sepulcher, then go into the chamber on the east side of the sepulcher and walk south through a wall that has opened to find a silver shield and a torch. (sector 328) Taking the torch opens a closet to the east with warrior ghosts and crystal vials.
  2. After pressing the fourth switch in the sepulcher, enter the chamber on the west side of the sepulcher and go through another wall that has opened at the south end to get an enchanted shield. (sector 33) Entering the secret opens a closet in the north-east corner of the starting courtyard containing gargoyles.
  3. Approaching the switch that opens the normal exit will lower a wall to the west, revealing a second switch behind it. Press this switch to lower the wall to your left, then go south through two rooms with golems to enter a room with a raised platform. Go around the east side of the platform to find a hidden switch and press it to lower a lift which goes down to a blood pool with a phoenix rod, then go up the steps to find an iron lich blocking the path back to the starting area. (sector 12) Going through this secret will also open a closet in the south-east corner of the courtyard containing gargoyles.
  4. After opening both closets on the east side of the courtyard, enter both of them to open the silver doors in the north-west corner of the courtyard. Press the switch behind these doors to open a staircase in the entrance hall, which leads down to the northern area of the level. (sector 243)
  5. From secret #4, go east to a blood pool with pods then north to a corridor with an iron lich. There is a false wall at the point where the corridor turns to the north-west, which has a Ring of Invincibility behind it. (sector 123)
  6. After entering secret #5, go west through some columns to enter another corridor, where two walls have lowered to reveal a Bag of Holding and a Wings of Wrath. Open the red exit door behind the Bag to find the secret exit teleporter. (sector 170)
