E4M4: Wartorn Precinct is the fourth map of episode Blood Stained Earth of No End In Sight. It was designed by Emil Brundage (NaturalTvventy).

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

In this level, watch out for monsters on the walkways in the middle of the level teleporting in and out suddenly. There are a large number of teleport lines on these walkways, which allow enemies (particularly cacodemons) to pursue you if you move from one side of the level to the other.

Go round the corner to find a radiation shielding suit (on I'm Too Young To Die (ITYTD) and Hey Not Too Rough (HNTR) skill levels) next to two teleporters; these are used to access the structures at the edges of the level. Step on the west teleporter to enter an enclosed room with one or more cacodemons, then step into another teleporter on your left to reach the structure at the north-west corner of the level. Drop out of either window then run south-east through the lava to find a shotgun, armor and medikit which you will need for the next part. Look north to see a tunnel and run through it until you reach a lift guarded by two lost souls; shoot your way past them and use the lift be taken up to a room with two or three cacodemons. Approach the skull switch on the south wall and press it - the wall will lower and reveal a path to the yellow skull key. Dispose of the imps and demons that are released behind you then take the radiation suit in the north-west corner - you want to open the path to the blue skull key before this suit expires.

Press the button in the north-east corner to lower the lift again, go back to where you found the shotgun then head west and south through the lava until you reach the starting point. There is a red tunnel next to this structure - enter it and follow the tunnel until you reach some steps, which you can climb to reach a room with a crusher. Wait until the crusher starts to rise then use the lift behind it to enter another room with two or three cacodemons, then press the skull switch on the north wall which will open the room containing the blue key. Take the radiation suit in the south-west corner then go back down the lift and retrace your steps back to where you found the shotgun, then climb the steps up to a brown ledge with zombies and imps. Follow the ledge south until you get to its south-west side where you will find a brick structure, then climb the northern set of steps in this structure to get on a stone walkway.

Follow the walkway north through two buildings until you reach a rocket launcher, then go inside the building next to it to collect the yellow key (this will open a closet to the south-west containing various enemies, including a cyberdemon on Hurt Me Plenty skill level or higher). Backtrack to the brick structure you climbed earlier and head up the south steps this time, follow the walkway south and east until you find a chaingun then walk through either door next to it to collect the blue key. Leave the building and head north until you drop into the lava, then open the blue key door straight ahead and push past one or two demons to reach solid ground. Climb the steps to the top then turn left and cross a bridge which rises from the lava to enter the next building.

Open the yellow key door on your left to confront zombiemen and one or two barons of Hell, then step outside to another bridge and follow it east to a dark cross-shaped building containing imps and more zombiemen. Head north-east to another walkway and climb the steps up to a teleporter which will put you in an enclosed area with several light-gray columns. Kill the shotgun guys in the room and collect all the ammo, then ready your weapons and flip the switch by the north wall - the columns will lower to reveal a number of imps and barons, and the floor will rise allowing a number of spectres to enter. Kill everything then take the red skull key from the middle column.

To leave the building safely you must step into the lava around the room, then go to the south-east window to find a switch which will lower a pillar holding a radiation suit. Collect the suit then head north through the lava until you see a gray brick column on your left, then look round this column to find a step with a shotgun and armor, as well as a staircase that you can use to get back to the walkway in the middle of the level. Return to the blue door - next to it are some red skull bars by an exit door. Open the exit door using the red key and step on the patch of sky behind it to finish the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

South-east of the cross-shaped building is a step with health bonuses and two boxes of bullets, and a lift that will take you up to a stone ledge in a neighboring building. Run south along the ledge to land on a second ledge with two health bonuses, then walk west until you reach two stimpacks (and a radiation suit on ITYTD and HNTR). Run north to land on a third ledge with more health bonuses, then east until you reach a doorway leading outside. From here you can run north-west along some square platforms to reach a plasma gun, along with an eye switch that will lower several more platforms throughout the level holding radiation suits, a berserk pack, a chainsaw and ammo.

A BFG9000 can be found inside the cross-shaped building. Approaching it will lower a platform behind you with imps and barons.

On the west side of the stone walkway in the middle of the level is a door requiring the red key. Go through this door to find an invulnerability and a teleporter leading to an enclosed area on the south edge of the level.

Secrets[edit]

  1. The switch that allows access to the yellow key opens up two monster closets. Behind the left one is a passage leading to a rocket, a box of rockets and a light amplification visor. (sector 187)
  2. In the lava north-east from the main building, spot an entrance to an icky gray building by looking south-west. Follow this path to a computer area map. (sector 282)
  3. In the lava on the west side of the level is a building with shuttered windows. Find the opening on the north-west side of this building and step through a false corpse wall to find an invulnerability. (sector 378)
