E4M8: Unto the Cruel is the eighth and final map in episode Thy Flesh Consumed of Ultimate Doom In Name Only. It was designed by Darryl Steffen (dobu gabu maru) and uses the music track "SHWORD" by Zan-zan-zawa-veia.

- Open the door behind the start to access the rest of the map. (sector 149)
- Head southeast from the center and on the steps with health bonuses. Enter the passage and there will be a door blocking access to a chaingun, a berserk pack, a BFG9000 (only on Hurt Me Plenty or lower), and either energy cells or boxes of ammo depending on your skill level. A hint is next to the door, showing "ALL" with a baron of Hell face, an arrow, and a pentagram. This corresponds to what you need to do to open this door. You must lure every single baron of Hell in the map to a pentagram, which will cause them to teleport. After doing this, you will have this door be open. (sector 381)
- In the same area, head to the set of steps leading down at the south end and press the skull switch there. Quickly run back, then to the northeast where there will be a hole. Hop in to get an energy cell pack. (sector 985)
- On the steps west of Secret #1, you can jump onto a rock to the north. From there, jump west onto another rock and head to the west side. Jump south and head southwest, then press the switch to get a soul sphere. (sector 1260)
- Head west from the lava north of the center, descending some steps to armor bonuses and shotgun shells. Go through the south wall to get an energy cell pack. (sector 1319)
- After lowering the lava level north of the center, head south from the switch that lowered it, east, and north. Shoot the eye on the wall, then get on the ledge to the west with the large tree. Jump east and climb up, then jump northwest to get a megaarmor in the hellgrowth. (sector 1397)
- In a lava pit at the northwest end, the walls with spinal columns function as crushers. One of the walls in the middle has an opening you can squeeze into when it rises all the way. Jump in and you will find a hellgrowth area with a soul sphere or a medikit depending on your skill level. More crushers are here, with the southeast one leading to a teleporter back, and the northwest one being a long passage leading to the northwest segment with some barons of Hell. (sector 1490)
- Inside the southeast cave, at the top, get onto two platforms, one with a crusher and the other with a rising and lowering platforms. Jump to the southeast and go to the spinal column for it to lower, revealing an energy cell pack. (sector 1723)
Bugs[edit]
Completing the map with 100% items is impossible due to the presence of a soul sphere in the inescapable northeast exit route, and five soul spheres in the inescapable southwest exit route, meaning that these items are mutually exclusive and cannot be obtained together.
Crushers in the northwest (sector 1492) may deal twice or thrice as much damage as intended due to the combined force of multiple crushers around the map being channeled through the single crusher the player is under. Notably, acquiring the red key from the southeast makes the northwest crusher section deal so much damage that it becomes impossible to complete due to the pinky crusher never being deactivated. This is related to the bug causing stuck sectors due to things nearby that do not necessarily touch the sector; the southeast pinky crusher (sector 1054) has an absurdly large blockbox covering most of the map, and it never gets deactivated, making it channel its force into most other crushers in the map.
