E4M9: E1M9 - Hate is the ninth and secret map in the fourth episode of Switcheroom. It was designed by EvilNed and is based on the layout of E1M9: Military Base.

Walkthrough[edit]

Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Essentials[edit]

Take the shotgun in front of you then go to the central hub, which is guarded by caged cacodemons along with spectres and shotgun guys. Go down the western staircase, open the door at the bottom and kill the imps and cacodemons through the fence, then step round the fence to find the yellow skull key. Go back to the hub and head down the eastern staircase, kill any waiting zombies then open the yellow door at the south end to find a lift. Ride the lift down and follow the hallway to the red skull key; taking it releases a number of imps and spectres around you.

Go up the stairs at the west end of the room to another yellow door, open it then head west through the next room to another staircase, which leads down to a red door. Open this door and kill any monsters waiting in the next room, take the rocket launcher sitting in the middle of the lava then go to the south-west corner of the room to find a lion switch. Press the switch, kill any cacodemons that are released into the room then go back up the stairs you just used to find that the skull column has opened, revealing the blue skull key along with barons of Hell.

With the blue key, go back to the hub then head down the northern staircase to a blue door. Open the door and kill the spectres and other monsters waiting in the exit room, then drop into the lava trench at the north end of the room and follow it round to a skull switch guarded by one or two spectres (or a baron on Ultra-Violence and Nightmare skill levels), press the switch to raise a bridge to the exit then go south a blank section of wall and open it to find a teleporter back to the starting point. Go back to the exit room, where more monsters have teleported in, then cross the bridge and enter the sky teleporter to finish the level.

Other points of interest[edit]

From the yellow key room, head north down some steps to a room with a gray star. There are various items in this room, including a megaarmor and a plasma gun; taking the weapon causes a group of imps and cacodemons to teleport in.

The easternmost room contains a blood pool with three metal pillars. Lower the tallest pillar and wait for it to rise back up, then drop down to the other pillars to get a partial invisibility and a box of bullets.

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the room at the west side between two red doors, open the east wall to find two energy cells. (sector 241)
  2. At the north end, go to the small temple-like structure to the east and go behind the south-east pillar. Use the face here to lower the remaining four secrets, which contain a shotgun, a backpack, a chainsaw, boxes of rockets and a radiation shielding suit. (sector 272)

Bugs[edit]

A zombieman (thing 330) on the south-eastern stairs has no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so it does not actually appear in the level.
