Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
All of the undead warriors and nearly all of the golems and nitrogolems in this level are ghosts. You should conserve ammo for weapons that are capable of harming ghosts as much as possible.
Drop into the water and go to the south side of the fort in front of you to find an entrance. Go through it and enter the tower in the center of the fort, then go up the stairs and push past a few golems to reach the yellow key at the top. Leave the fort and go up the steps at the north end of the water to reach a yellow door, open it to face a couple of golems then press the switch behind the south-eastern door to lower a lift. Ride the lift up to a ledge with two sets of stairs, then press both switches at the top and bottom of these staircases followed by a third switch in between the stairs—this will raise three bridges from the magma pit ahead. Cross the first bridge to reach a metal column and press the switch inside it to lower the pedestal behind you holding the green key, along with four closets on the east and west sides of the room containing golems.
Return to the lift area and go through the east door to enter a room with a sludge pit, then open the red banner wall on the south side and kill a golem waiting behind it. Approach the dark wall behind the golem to open it and reveal a path to the green door, then walk into the door to open two closets to your left and right with more golems. Go through the door to enter a tiled hall and press the switch next to the eastern door to lower two lifts holding Time Bombs of the Ancients, then ride the northern lift up to another switch and press it to raise some steps at the south end. Go up the steps to an alcove with a third switch and press it to open the door at the north end of the hall, pass through it to see the blue key on an altar and press the switch on the east wall to lower it, then take the key to release two warriors in front of you along with some nitrogolems behind you.
Return to the tiled hall and go back to the first switch to find that the opposite wall has opened, then press the switch behind the wall to open the east door and release some disciples of D'Sparil behind you. Go through the door to enter a room with six teleporters, kill the golems then step on the raised platform in the center to lower the surrounding walls and reveal more golems along with gargoyles (which will go elsewhere if they enter the teleporters). Enter the east compartment to reveal a switch at the south end of the room, press it to reveal a second switch on the opposite side, then press that switch as well to lower the teleporters and enter the south-western teleporter to go to the blue door. Pass through the door to enter a sandstone room, then go up the southern staircase to find a Tome of Power and a switch that will open four closets with disciples. Start going up the western staircase to trigger an ambush by an iron lich and nitrogolems, then go up to the north-western closet and press the switch inside it to open the east column, which contains the blue exit switch.
Other points of interest[edit]
Secrets[edit]
- In the sludge pool room, open the northern red banner to find a switch and press it to lower the surrounding walls, revealing golems along with another switch. Press the second switch to lower a lift on the east side of the sludge room with a hellstaff. Stepping on the lift lowers a wall at the top revealing two lesser runes (and a Tome of Power on bringest them oneth skill level or higher), and stepping past the wall will open two closets with iron liches. (sector 349)
- Pressing the switch to lower the green key will open two alcoves on the east and west sides of the magma pit containing more switches. Press the western switch to lower the red floor next to it, revealing a compartment with a quartz flask, then open the back wall to find a teleporter to the two golem cages on the west side of the area. The second closet contains a Chaos Device. (sector 245) The two sectors behind the wall of the flask compartment count as separate secrets.
- Similar to secret #2, press the eastern switch in the green key room to lower the red floor next to it, revealing another compartment with a quartz flask, then open the back wall to find a teleporter to the two golem cages on the east side of the area. The second closet contains a Ring of Invincibility. (sector 230) The two sectors behind the wall of the flask compartment count as separate secrets.
- In the tiled hall, lower the two lifts with Time Bombs then get on the southern lift and ride it up. Open the spine wall at the top to reveal a passage with gargoyles leading to a phoenix rod. (sector 442)
- In the room with six teleporters, enter the north teleporter to go to the cage at the north end of the magma pit with two flame orbs, a firemace, and a Wings of Wrath. (sector 236)

Comparison of versions[edit]
Room design[edit]
- Additional sectors were added throughout the map to create more realistic lighting.
- Extra sectors, which are marked as secret, were added near the teleporters below the green key area. Two of the sectors are unreachable without cheating, so it is possible they were marked as secret by mistake.
- A hidden sector with a “SPECIAL GOATS” message was added in the south-east corner of the map.
Texture changes[edit]
- Red floors were added to a number of monster closets.
- The floors of the stairs inside the fort were changed from stone to wood.
- The rooms behind the green door were changed to black and white tiled floors.
- Brown pillar textures were added to the T-shaped hall, complementing the pillar things in the room.
Thing placement[edit]
- The braziers on either side of the green door were removed, while stalactites and stalagmites were added to the red ledge in front of it.
- The braziers in the teleporter room were removed, while two brown pillars were added by the entrance door.
- Serpent torches were added on either side of the blue door.
