E5M7: The Great Hall is the seventh map of Shadowcaster. It was designed by Stephen Clark (The Ultimate DooMer) and uses the music track "Olkin" by Kevin Schilder, from Heretic.

Essentials[edit]
Exit the sludge tunnel then walk north-east to a lift and press the button on the west wall to go up to the hallway above. Go to the north-east end of the hallway, noting any sabreclaws waiting inside the wall alcoves, then open the door here to enter a tan room with nitrogolems, a voodoo doll and a Morph Ovum. Fire the Ovum at the doll to turn yourself into a chicken, then climb the steps and walk through the gap at the top to land in an enclosed area with a switch. Press the switch to open the door behind you, then return to the hallway and go to the north-west corner where a stone door has opened; note the weredragons that have been released nearby if you are still a chicken. Activate the lift behind the door and ride it up to another door which leads to a silver room, then fight through some weredragons and ophidians to reach the north-east corner where a red hall leads to a T-shaped room. Deal with the caged undead warriors then go to the north end of the room to find Gauntlets of the Necromancer and a switch that will open the door in the south-east corner.
Approaching the switch lowers two walls behind you to reveal iron liches, which you should destroy before going through the door you just opened. Press the switch behind the door to lower a lift, ride it up and kill one or two ophidians then head south to a mosaic chamber with four doors. Each door is linked to one of the four switches in the chamber, but only one door can be opened at a time; you need something to jam the doors and stop them closing. Go back to the silver room and head to the south-east corner to find a hellstaff, then go down the steps here to enter a water pool with a pod generator. Push the pods all the way to the mosaic chamber and use them to hold the doors open (you may need to crouch under the doors to get through) so you can reach the switch behind them. Kill the disciples of D'Sparil that are released to your left and right, then return to the silver room where the western door has opened to reveal a lich guarding the red key.
Taking the key will release two groups of ophidians and disciples to your left and right, as well as closing the entrance door for 30 seconds. Fight off the monsters until the door opens again, then return to the silver room and open either of the eastern doors to find a staircase leading to the titular great hall. Climb the steps at the south end of the hall to find a lich (or maulotaur on hard skill levels) and a Tome of Power, then go through the eastern doorway and look to your right to see a switch. Press the switch to lower a lift, arm yourself then enter the hallway ahead and collect the Morph Ovum to trigger an ambush by weredragons, sabreclaws and one or two liches (keep the Ovum for later). Enter the chamber on the north side of the hallway and press the switches on the east and west walls, then go down the staircase on the south side and push past some undead warriors to reach another door.
Behind the door is a pit with four exits, though only two are open at this point. Drop into the pit and push the pods to create bridges from the center lift to the exits, then press the switch on the lift to lower it and get a mystic urn. Step across to the east doorway and climb the stairs to a crypt with disciples, press the switch on the east wall then dodge the undead warrior ghosts and ophidians that are released behind you before returning to the pit. Step across to the south doorway now and climb the stairs to a second crypt, press the switch on the south wall then go back to the pit and proceed to the west doorway. Climb to the top of the steps to see some disciples guarding a large pit, press the switch on the east wall then go back to the hallway to see that the cage holding the voodoo doll has opened. Fire an Ovum at the doll to turn yourself into a chicken again, then run back to the large pit and use your momentum and reduced gravity to fly to the other side. Press the blue switch here then head up the steps to find a crawlspace leading back to the great hall, where the east wall has lowered to reveal the green key along with two or three liches.
Climb up the red and yellow steps on the east side of the great hall to reach the upper level, which is guarded by one or two maulotaurs, then open either door at the north and south ends to find a large staircase leading down to the tombs. Dispose of one or two liches then head east into a tunnel with sabreclaws, then go to the voodoo doll in the tunnel and look north and south to see two tunnels, which you can follow to reach a ledge with an ice column and two switches. Press both switches to open the metal bars at the bottom of the steps, collect the Ring of Invincibility in the center of the maze then go to the easternmost chamber and press one more switch on the east wall to release a maulotaur from the block behind you. Go back up to the tombs to destroy some nitrogolem ghosts, collect the blue key then go back to the great hall and open the blue door at the north end to reveal the level exit.

Secrets[edit]
- Enter the red hall leading to the north-west room. Afterwards, head back to the big room and take the lift to the south-west down to the dungeon halls. Head west and take this path to get a shadowsphere and a Ring of Invincibility. (sector 277)
- In the north-west room, step on the indentation to the right. Lower the side walls and head west to get a quartz flask and an inferno orb. (sector 305)
- Take the steps south of the center, then enter the room that can have the firemace. After getting it, quickly run to the room to the east and past the voodoo doll. In this area, you can lower the columns which have a Tome of Power and a Chaos Device. (sector 602)
- In the south intersection, get on the north-east block and open the wall to find a teleporter leading to a mystic urn. (sector 487)
- In the hall past the red and brown steps, go to the north steps, then onto the ledge with the enchanted shield. Run back through the hall and to the south-east, taking a teleporter that leads to a quiver of ethereal arrows. The wall will lower, allowing you to get an inferno orb and a phoenix rod. (sector 571)
- In the hall past the red and brown steps, go to the south steps, then onto the ledge with the quiver of ethereal arrows. Run back through the hall and to the north-east, taking a teleporter that leads to a greater runes. The wall will lower, allowing you to get an inferno orb and a phoenix rod. (sector 581)
- Take the steps past the green doors to the tomb area. At the bottom, go behind the altar and use the west wall to find a teleporter. Teleport and lower the block to get a map scroll. Open the south-east door to get an inferno orb, and open the next door to the south and lower the block to find a Tome of Power. (sector 418)
- In the tomb area, leave the crypts and shoot at the north-east wall in the next hall. Head to the east maze and into the room with the Ring of Invincibility. Take the east teleporter to get a shadowsphere and a Morph Ovum. (sector 623)
- In the tomb area, leave the crypts and shoot at the south-east wall in the next hall. Head to the east maze and into the room with the Ring of Invincibility. Take the west teleporter to get two Time Bombs of the Ancients. (sector 624)
