Essentials[edit]

Turn left at the junction ahead to see a lava pool and some lost souls, then run through the lava to reach the chaingun at the south-west end. Look south-west at this point to see an evil eye through a crack in the wall and shoot it to open the UAC wall to the south, then pass through that wall to find a cacodemon guarding a plasma gun and the yellow skull key. Go back to the lava and climb up the steps with armor bonuses, then open the yellow bars ahead and climb the steps behind them to a switch. Flip the switch to open the door behind it for a few seconds, allowing you to collect the red skull key. On Ultra-Violence and Nightmare skill levels, you will need to avoid the cyberdemon waiting in the lava around the red key.

From the red key, you can open the red door at the east end of the pool to get to a supercharge and a set of red bars; alternatively, you can return to the start and go north. Open the red bars and press the eye switch behind to lower a wall in the lava to the east, kill any monsters that teleport in then go up the steps behind the wall and open the pentagram door at the top. There are three crushers just ahead—stand between the second and third crushers and look north-west to see an eye, shoot it to open a wall by the third crusher, then press the gargoyle switch behind this wall to raise a staircase. Go up the stairs to face a cacodemon and look at the left-hand wall to see a thin gap, then shoot the demon eyes inside it to reveal another gargoyle switch. Press the switch then go back through the crushers and head south down two large steps to a dead end with a teleporter. Look at the west wall to see a crack with another evil eye and shoot it to open the final lava area.

Go to the island in the middle of the final lava pool and enter the alcove on the north side to find a box of bullets, then look through the gap in the north wall and shoot the eye ahead to open the south and west walls of the lava pool, revealing an L-shaped platform. There is a computer terminal west of the L that you can open by pressing the button at the north-west end of the L, and the switch in the alcove at the south-east end of the L. After opening the terminal, kill the shotgun guys and other enemies waiting behind it then go to the bottom of the steps to find the exit portal, which is guarded by a baron of Hell on UV and NM.

Other points of interest[edit]

Secrets[edit]

  1. From the start, head west and south-west in the lava. Shoot the eye to the south-west to open the south wall leading to the yellow key area. Get the berserk pack to the south. This secret closes after thirty seconds have passed in the level. (sector 453)
  2. In the north-east lava field, take the south-east path to find a rocket launcher and either a box of rockets or a rocket depending on your skill level. (sector 36)
  3. In the south-east lava field, head to the middle and open the south terminal to get a BFG9000 and either an energy cell pack or an energy cell depending on your skill level. (sector 358)
  4. Open the large wall to the south-west of the south-east lava field and head in that direction. Find the FIREBLU wall in the small lava path and shoot it to open a bigger wall containing a box of rockets and an energy cell pack. (sector 481)

Bugs[edit]

The lava directly in front of and under the red door (sectors 106 and 141) is not damaging.
