Eternal Slumber Party (often shortened to ESP) is a 2014 megawad for Doom II, created by TimeOfDeath and released on September 1, 2014. It is a collection of maps that TimeOfDeath had previously released as standalone PWADs, or as submissions to larger community projects. It received a sequel, Eternal Slumber Party II, in 2018.

Maps 01-17 and 31-33 are Boom-compatible, while maps 18-30 are limit-removing. This distinction is not optional, as certain maps rely on mechanics specific to the vanilla engine, such as MAP21 becoming impossible to complete on complevel 9 due to differences in behaviour of the stair builder linedef action.

Eternal Slumber Party was included as part of the Top 25 Missed Cacowards.

Content[edit]

Custom weapons[edit]

The infinite BFG replaces the chainsaw and is a red-tainted BFG9000 with infinite ammo.

Custom monsters[edit]

On MAP12, there is a custom object replacing the dead imp, which functions as a rocket-shooting turret that constantly shoots rockets at you when you enter its line of sight.

The two BEX patches, intended to be used for MAP29 and MAP31, respectively, make certain changes to some of the monsters for those specific levels.

ESP29.bex:

  • A dummy monster replaces the short techno floor lamp. It moves around in dummy sectors and is inaccessible normally. This dummy monster does not attack and has 100 hit points.
  • The dead marine thing is replaced with the cacodemon.
  • The dead lost soul thing is replaced by a plasma gun which can be collected like normal, but also can be targeted and shot at. It has 99999 hit points.
  • The dead demon thing is replaced by a translucent megasphere that can also be picked up and can be targeted and shot at. It also has 99999 hit points.

ESP31.bex:

  • The short green column with the beating heart thing is replaced with a zombieman with the same stats, but does not drop an ammo clip.
  • The short red column is replaced with a shotgun guy with the same stats, but does not drop a shotgun.
  • The tall green column thing is replaced with a chaingunner with the same stats, but does not drop a chaingun.
  • The tall red column thing is replaced with a Wolfenstein SS with the same stats, but does not drop an ammo clip.
  • The short green column thing is replaced with a "green" cacodemon that shoots streams of green fireballs and has 4000 hit points.
