Only known scan of rare GamePro September 1996 pre-release review of Final Doom (PlayStation), displaying a screenshot of Tom Mustaine's TWM01.wad in the process of being converted by the Williams team. The level was not included in the final release of the game.

This is a screenshot of a third-party level or other extension for a Doom-series game. Although the licenses of most editors and utilities allow mod designers to retain ownership of their work, the actual gameplay still embodies certain aspects of the original title, which are under the copyright of id Software, its licensees, and/or its distributors. Therefore, this image is displayed here under "fair use".

It is believed that the use of such screenshots in the Doom Wiki qualifies as fair use because:

  • No freely licensed equivalent can exist. In some cases, the software's functionality could conceivably be replicated by a free alternative, but such an alternative would be insufficient to the Doom Wiki's goal of documenting the original creative work.
  • The screenshot is used to convey ideas which cannot be adequately represented by text alone, as part of a journalistic or analytical discussion about some aspect of the software, or a historical record of its context in the Doom community. The image is never used in a purely decorative manner.
  • The screenshots included in the Doom Wiki represent a trivially small portion of the original copyrighted media, which in no way replaces the reader's experience of using the software. Therefore, their reproduction here does not infringe on the market role of the copyrighted publication.
  • The image was captured by the person who uploaded it.
  • The graphics are unmodified from their original form, possibly excepting simple labeling and scaling.
  • For each image on the Doom Wiki, an associated description page attributes its source and details the rationale for fair use of copyrighted material. This description page is easily accessible whenever the image is presented in an article.

This image is a scan of a portion of the contents of a book, magazine, newspaper, or other publication, and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the publisher of the cited item. The content it depicts may have additional owners, as identified by other notices on this page. It is believed that the limited use of such low-resolution excerpts on The Doom Wiki, hosted on servers in the United States by MancuNET, qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law, provided that:

  • There is no possible free alternative,
  • The purpose is to illustrate an article discussing the contents of the scan in an encyclopedic context,
  • A trivially small portion of the work is utilized, and
  • The excerpt does not contain significant text print from the publication, and therefore is not infringing on its market role as a print publication.

Other use of this image, on this site or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement.

To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
