Doom Resurrection maps

Gehenna is the fifth level of Doom Resurrection and the first part of Hell visited in the game. The player has lost all of their weapons and must scavenge what they can from the environment. Sam attempts to help initially by distracting some imps but takes damage. The lost soul first appears here as an enemy, and an arch-vile serves as the level's boss. The marine takes it upon himself to destroy any Hellish teleporters he comes across. This level has a par time of 15:00.

Essentials[edit]

Six teleporter gates are encountered throughout the level. Each one consists of three separate pillars that must be destroyed, which have a visible life bar. Imps and lost souls will continue to attack while the gates are active so it may be necessary to spread out the player's attention.

The arch-vile appears at the very end of the level and serves as a boss. It has a visible life bar. As it moves around the arena, it will summon either one or two imps at a time and will then attack with a wave of blue flame which travels along the ground toward the player and should be dodged.

Trivia[edit]

  • This level shares the same name as a level of Doom II RPG.
  • The word Gehenna is a place name from Greek and Syriac (Γέεννα Géenna/ܓܼܼܗܲܢܵܐ Gihanna), which is a translation of the Aramaic name of the Valley of Hinnom (גֵיא־הִנֹּם Gēʾ-Hīnnōm, lit. 'Valley of Hinnom'), and has received various fundamental theological connotations. In Judaism it is the name of a realm where the wicked expiate their sins. In Christianity it is treated as being synonymous with Hell as a place of "unquenchable fire". Some Islamic authors interpreted the name in a literal fashion as meaning that the valley holds an actual gateway to Hell.
