Harbor of Souls
From DoomWiki.org
Harbor of Souls is the nineteenth level of Doom: The Dark Ages. After absorbing Commander Thira’s power, Prince Ahzrak returns to Argent D'Nur. Meanwhile, the Doom Slayer, who has been imprisoned in the Cosmic Realm, frees himself by detonating the tether in his suit, but falls into a pit of acid and dies, only to awaken in Hell as a zombie.
The Berserk powerup is introduced in this level. It uses the music tracks "Sentinel Barracks" as ambience, and "Battle on the Blackened Tide" as combat music.

Secrets[edit]
- After acquiring the red skull, proceed through the red key gate in the ruins and follow the path down to two statues holding braziers. Behind the furthest statue on the lower platform is a secret lever which spawns a soulsphere on the platform just above. Approaching it will cause three cyberdemons to spawn.

Trivia[edit]
- During the opening cutscene, the first words from Doom (2016) are spoken by King Novik: "They are rage, brutal, without mercy. But you...you will be worse. Rip and tear, until it is done." The start of the level, where the Slayer breaks free of the skeletal hands restraining him, is also reminiscent of the opening in that game.
- The Harbor of Souls is based on the River Styx from Greek mythology; the Hell priest guarding the barge represents Charon, who ferries the souls of the dead. The association of this myth with Hell is an element from Dante's Inferno.
- Despite the ambience track being named after the fourth level, this track is only featured in this level. Sentinel Barracks itself it uses "Holy City" as an ambience track, the same as The Holy City of Aratum.
- If the heads-up display is made to show the Slayer’s face in this level (either default or classic), it will display his zombified visage. The default HUD setting will show his decomposing face in a sickly green color instead of the HUD’s usual blue, and the classic HUD setting will show the classic Doomguy face heavily edited to make him look undead.
- A zombie Doom Slayer was previously seen as a cosmetic skin in Doom Eternal, awarded to dedicated members of the Slayers Club.
